^+1 what he said, my Harley Super Glide is like that - embarassing when there are citizens around, but boy does it put a smile on your face and a thump thump in your chest when that 96 incher starts growling under a fist full of throttle.

I understand, but when it's dark and lights are involved an H-BOMB could go off and they will just stand and try to look over/under or even charge the light. " Deer in the Headlights"

We like to ride in the Texas hill country and it is full of deer so we start our rides late and end early so not to be riding at the most populated times. “9 to 5”

I used to do that ... oh the memories ... two of my favourite past times. Biking and deer hunting.

I understand that this subject is emotive among us, however, I love the sound of big powerful bikes on full chat. Until very recently I had a beautiful MT-01 with Akra cans and no baffles, that baby made sweet music as she sat thumping out that melodic soundtrack (heartbeat) that was designed into the bike 'KODO' ... Japanese drumming to the unintiated. To hear multiple MT-01's will make you weap (and your ears bleed). Seriously, I took 31 of these beasts to Warwick, 15 to the ACE Cafe but the record was 101 of them in Germany in 2008 with the Donnermeisters. I will buy another of these .... as much as I adore the Tenere for what it is ... I miss the pure character of the best bike I ever had .... and I've had a lot of bikes.

Couple of patches to celebrate the events. :)

I have a built-in bias but if you've never heard a crossplane crank R1 with a full system, you're missing out. It sounds like nothing else on two wheels, more like a V8 than an IL4. Sounds great down low but still revs to 13,000+ rpm! BUT, I only ride that bike at the track. To me there is nothing more annoying than a Harley/metric cruiser, raging through downtown with straight pipes, echoing off all the buildings. Same for a sportbike (usually a gixxer or ninja, any displacement) with a rat exhaust shrieking around town. Loud bikes seem to always get the "do-gooders" busy at the legislature. In the right context, I love the sound of a well modded exhaust. In the general public though, "loud" usually works against us.

you are absolutely right 20valves. well built perfomance exhaust sounds beautiful. for me it doesn't matter what the crank/piston orientation is or whether it is a 2 or 4 stroke or has 1 or 12 cylinders. I just love the sound of of a free breathing well performing engine. I think the thing to remember is that not everyone enjoys the same sounds. there is a nice statement I think from the USA declaration of independance that speaks to the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness - as long as you do not infringe on the same rights of others. we all live in communities of others, I know my community members will enjoy a quiet motorcycle more than a loud one when I leave for work at 6am. loud and fast will eventually be legislated out of existance. I remember when we had to start putting mufflers on the track based stock cars we were building - we all adjusted...

The s10 with the remus and baffles out has a split personality, it can be ridden carefully and is not excessively loud and I dont need earplugs on a long ride. If you want to make it turn heads on a crowded street it will, its reponds to the rider, I like having the option of being an idiot if I feel like it. The original can is heavy and lacks the personality a 1200 twin should have. I feel sorry for the Californians

I've never felt that the exhaust had anything to do with my decision to wear ear protection all the time. It's all about the wind noise,,,,,,,,,,,,

+1 on that. If your own exhaust causes you to wear ear plugs, it's too damn loud :exclaim:

yeah, even for myself, the earplugs are in if i am going down the street 2 miles. Almost like a helmet, gloves or jacket at all times!!! I even have a half of a case of good earplugs still out in the garage from a few years back.

Back on my youth, I was riding my Harley with after-market pipes...I was going a bit too fast down a city street (OK...a lot too fast) and a LAPD officer not only wrote the speed violation, but also wrote me up for pipes...making me put stockers back on (which I had long since lost and had to go buy).

As it turns out...only stock bikes are approved for use on CA roads. Loud, soft, doesn't matter; You change what was approved by CADOT you are in violation and can be required to put the bike into spec.

Being older and wiser (yeah, right)...I don't change any of that stuff anymore....and also don't like loud pipes..I find them irritating, even with the 10% performance boost. Off-road, they're even worse...people go out into the country to hear nature.

From the reports I have read, the OEM exhaust has a good sound and is relatively light weight. I do not plan on purchasing an aftermarket exhaust to annoy my neighbors or attract the police when I am blasting down the road.
