About to have time off of work looking to go somewhere on Monday. I will be camping for sure and preparing and making my own food. Just worried about finding a place to camp. Don't mind setting up somewhere off the beaten path just worried if I need to get water or other supplies something happening to the campsite. Guessing a lot of campgrounds are closed. they closed all the Texas state parks for example as of April 7th. Looking to go from Fort Worth Texas where I live to Moab Utah possibly.

Most of Utah is closed down to "outsiders". The State Parks are only open to the people who live within the same county.
A lot of the National Parks are closed as well. I would check ahead if I were you.

Bokerfork is right. The Texas - Louisiana border is basically shut down. There may be others that are closed. Sudden thought. . . . can you imagine how busy the roads are going to be after this is over?! Everybody traveling at the same time?! I'll be staying home for a whole different reason. ;)

Unfortunately with this big Corona issue going on this is definitely no time to be traveling far from home If you don’t have to.
It took a while but I have accepted that fact and am doing my best to abide by the rules to help protect everyone.
So far no confirmed Corona cases in my County, hopefully it stays that way.

I agree with you and I plan on being remote and away from people except for maybe to go into a store to get food items. Fortunately where I live people are not doing a good job of respecting the social distance thing and other things slow down the spread. so that's actually another reason I want to get away

Big Bend wouldn't require going out of state.

I'm back east so what do I know.

It might be looking this way.....I've done Big Bend quite a few times was trying for something different.....but just may end up being this way. Problem is: State Parks are closed. I know of places ( I Could) set up camp. Usually after I set up camp. I make a run for water, firewood, food, etc. Can't leave a campsite alone that is not in a park. Big Bend especially. Advantage with Big Bend is I know the area and know where to get H2O quickly. Just looking to get away from people and relax and not have a worry if someone is picking at my campsite.

Throw on a daypack and haul your provisions in with you. I almost always do as a last stop of the day. Firewood is easy to come by at most campsites here but might be a little tricky for you. That's why they make headlamps and collapsible lanterns though.
You got this!

What about the coast? Galveston or somewhere less populated? The hill country north of Austin is nice too.

Well so much for the stay at home order. Even if it means spreading this disease across a few states. BTW, you guys that are riding are getting tested first before you head out? You do not have to have the symptoms to spread it. This is very sad that COVID- 19 is not going to slow down if people continue to carry on as it's not there.

Its the same here in Canada. Stay at Home pretty much means "stay at home". Sooner we get our shit together, the sooner we return to a new normal....Fingers crossed from Canada!

Quit being a servant to your know nothing government officials. This is the least understood virus of all time as far as I can tell. It seems to affect mostly those in the most dense of living conditions, i.e. New York. If you want to go out and ride and "cowboy" camp as much as possible, GO! Quit being such a bunch of pansies. If you want to come to my State, County, City, or driveway, but you maintain reasonable Social Distance, who cares? The city of Los Angeles pulling people off of their surfboards is evidence enough to me that the world's leaders have lost it. A little common sense goes a long way. Let's all stop putting so much faith in our elected officials and educate ourselves just a little. Many a hospital is having trouble making payroll because they canceled all elective procedures, only to find themselves empty of the anticipated Covid patients.

Was it reasonable to shut down the world's biggest economy to save the healthcare system? We may never know. But, shutting down bars and restaurants while leaving airports and hotels open is asinine. I believe history will not be kind to the decision makers of this era. In the meantime, if you want to ride your motorcycle far from the maddening crowd, you, at the very least, have my blessing.

I'm being a servant to the lord, myself, loved ones and other humans. I'm using the tools that God, grandfather, grandmother, and parents instilled into me as a child. Integrity, cooperation, caution, common sense, and an unselfish attitude. Unfortunately there's a large number of humans who are egotistical, throw caution out the window, and can care less of the outcome of that behavior. It's sad but just a fact of life. So this virus is going to continue to spread.

BTW, UT has grown to over 2100 confirmed cases of COVID- 19. This is more than doubled in just a little over a week. Deaths have almost tripled in the same amount of time.

 Politics aren't killing people. People are catching this virus, and dying. Technically, only a small percentage of people that catch the virus, are dying from the virus. And, there are people recovering. . . . a lot of them. But, how do know that you, or your loved one(s), won't be in that small percentage that passes away? I can't think of ANTYTHING WORSE than being the cause of death of an innocent person. You're right, we doctors don't know a lot about this virus. They do know that it kills people, and you don't have to be old, or have "underlying health issues". But. . . . hey, you do you. . . .it's your right. . . . but, you had better stay away from me and my family.

Honestly. It's just going to be me, my motorcycle and camping gear. I'm not going to be near anyone except for when I get things at a store. I'm wanting not only a motorcycle trip, but to get away from people who are not practicing safety. I am familiar with infectious disease. I was a Hosptal Corpsman in the Marines, then a nurse in the civilian world. I am now a Flight Attendant. I have worked 2 days on 2 flights since this thing started. I had vacation for the month of March, then my flights were cancelled to where I worked just 2 days. My flights had 10 passengers. And we crew stayed more than 6 feet from the passengers and from each other. I'm healthy, but in my 50's and I'm not taking a chance. I also have parents in there very late 70's (78 and 79) who live 11 miles away and I have not seen them since this started. They are being very cautious and I am. My in-laws are in their 70s and live literally down the street. (I don't recommend this closeness!!!) They (in-laws) are not being the most careful! They don't go anywhere....but my wife (also a Flight Attendant who hasn't worked in 2 months due to a surgery) walks down to visit them every day. Where I live. I leave the house to go to the grocery store nearest my house which is a Walmart. Yes, I do go riding my motorcycle away from people on a few days....but I can tell you when I go to the store....people are NOT respecting what is recommended! Me going away on a trip by myself Will be the safest thing for me...and for others as I am being safe about this. Quite honestly, I WANT to be away from others in the first place!!! Just want to get on my bike ride through some nice scenery that I look down upon from the airplane....set up camp....cook some food.... then have a glass of wine while reading a book while enjoying the scenery and solitude......
having dignified this....
I am making progress on finding campgrounds between where I live in Fort Worth, Texas and Moab, Utah. I need to call ahead and see what campgrounds are open and the distance between campsites. Many on the campgrounds near the San Juan National Forest don't open till May. Also, I am reading that the San Juan National Forest is closed. But am wondering if I can ride through? That will help decide what route I take and which campgrounds to call. Also wondering if a campground is open...how many people will be there? Don't want to be near people. Not just for Coronavirus, but just don't want to be near people. Too many of my trips I want to get away from people....but some people can just be annoying....had kids coming up to my campsite...people let their dogs run loose at the campgrounds...loud music....just many other annoyances that I'm trying to get away from in the first place! 90% of the time I go on my trips alone.

With your background and having undoubtedly had to endure the airline training session, you seem to know the risks, how to minimize them both for yourself and others, and seem to be trying to act appropriately. You're going to have to get groceries even if you stay home. When I got laid off before going to the Govt I was always antsy about whether to look for another job, because the employer might call me back and I'd been making good money there BUT I had bills and no income. It sucked. Being a flight attendant these days basically means that you are out of a job and income, unless you have a side gig, so I can also appreciate your need for de-stressing.

As for where to go, I have zero clue but wish you well however you do this stress relief.

As for the others, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR POLITICAL COMMENTS. Xclimation asked for ideas about where to go, not critiques. If the shoe were on the other foot, I doubt you would appreciate it.

The Burr trail is a great ride. Hwy 12 is a spectacular ride. However Utah has started tracking people coming in and out of the state. Utah’s governor has issued an order that you have to be from that county to use public recreation areas. All National Parks are closed. Bad time for road trips.

My bad, I get it. Poor guy just needs to get away from all this. Not my cup of tea during this crap. But after all, I'm not the one asking about a nice place to ride.

These are on the list and in my thoughts....but I was hoping to go out of state. I've been to these places....sooo many times!
Might I suggest if you want to get out of state, do a desert run. Now is a good time for the flowers to bloom. Might not be a super bloom but it will still be nice. The air is fresh and a lot less traffic. Right here in CA you can go through Mojave, Lucerne, and even go up and over the mountains in the same day. There is a huge combination of backroads and paved that you can spend a few days on.

In UT/AZ there is a vast network of thousands of miles of trails called the Arizona Strip. Here is a map of Moab/AZ Strip/FT Worth loop. If you zoom in I see there are a bunch of paved back roads and Jeep roads you can explore right from home.

Holy crap, it still blows my mind every time I look at Texas on a map!! It's on my bucket list to cross the state of Texas on the 10 in one day. It's pretty much an Iron Butt at over 900 miles!!

Yeah, the first time my wife got to visit New England, she was amazed. We crossed several state line in an hour. Even where we live now in north Texas, it takes an hour to get to Oklahoma.
