Looking for a rear seat luggage rack

Looking for recommendations for a rack to replace the rear seat on the Tenere. I want to mount a RotoPax fuel container there. I run a trunk at the rear of the bike, it seems like most people place the fuel there, but I thought of keeping the trunk, and mounting the fuel forward of that. I never ride a passenger, so have the rear seat off anyway. Welcome any feedback on what works.

Touratech makes a nice one. I like mine a lot.

I saw the Touratech one, but I wondered about the big hole in the middle. The center is where I thought the fuel tank would bracket would bolt.

Alt rider works well with the RotoPax.

Contact Ernie A and tell him what you want. He already has some pieces cut that mount in that space using the rear seat bolts at the front and one or two of the larger bolts at the rear. It's a blank plate, so you can put any bolt pattern you want on it. And odds are high it's a little cheaper than the Touratech part.

He made my fuel cell, which fits along that space, extending over the rear rack, but also makes a version that leaves the rear rack for a top case and mounts a fuel cell on the passenger seat area.

I am also planning to mount a rotopax can where the passenger seat goes. I was not planning on putting a rack there at all. I just planned to drill the plastic rack that is in place to accept the bolt pattern for the rotopax mount, and then have a thin sheet of steel or aluminum under the plastic as a "backer" to support it.

Any pictures? These projects sound GREAT.

I was wondering if that would work. No real reason it wouldn't... ::008::

No idea about the Rotopax. I have the Touratech and it works nice as a flat luggage platform:

I did this very thing for a ~3k mile trip. Worked fine. Mainly did it as a test, but was pleased with the results. I used a 1gal pack, with their standard mount, and placed the backing plate under the plastic for support. I didn't have any panniers at the time, so I ended up strapping my duffel (~35lbs, guessing) on top of the fuel cell. No leaks, seeps, or spills. I don't think I have any pics, but I'll see what I can find...

What I used isn't as elegant as the aftermarket racks, but it worked fine. I'm researching rack options too, but haven't found anything that really does it for me.

No detailed pics of the pack by itself, but these are about all that I have. You can still get the idea. No pics of the mount installed, either, sorry. I've got it removed right now, and am running a soft tail bag. Easily removable, so I can snap some pics of the mounting holes if it'll help.

Jesse Luggage has a 6 liter storage box with a rack plate on it that replaces the rear seat. You can waterproof the compartment by running thin foam or rubber gasket between compartment top and top plate. That opening in the middle will allow you to mount rotopax mount and clear the bolt heads. The only part about Jesse is that every time I call them about it they never seem to have it in stock - it's always in production or waiting for arrival for about a year now, so on so you may have to be patient with them. Prices on their site are contradicting too, one says 195 the other says 245 for the same thing, but I am pretty sure it's 245. I hope they get their act together and finally make one ::002::

There was a new member who joined not long ago that contacted Altrider about a pillion rack. Apparently they are working on it now and should be ready in couple of months.

Here is the thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6961.msg118655#msg118655

I like the Wolfman rack setup but I will likely wait to see the Altrider product first. ::017::
