I just finished the Apple TV+ series. Interesting in my opinion. I do wonder what their budget was. I almost feel like they "cheated" when they bought and modified a bike carrying bus to get through the diceier parts of Mexico.

It does show the potential of EVs, if the infrastructure was there. I was probably more impressed with Rivian than Harley. One of the modded Live Wires required a major repair, and was hauled part way, until major assembly replacement could be coordinated.

I watched it, and was left with kind of a "meh" feeling. It was disappointing, because I really wanted to like it. I just think that introducing the whole electric vehicle concept into the production was such a distraction, and drew a lot of attention away from the actual trip. Every episode seemed to at least partially focus on "how far can we get with this charge? Are we going to make it on this charge?". Moreso than the previous two documentaries, they seemed absolutely tethered to civilization in this one because of the limitations on their vehicles. There was definitely no "Road of Bones" equivalent for this chapter. I think that this documentary did show the potential of electric bikes, but what it really showed was that currently, that potential is pretty limited, at least as far as long distance travel is concerned. I certainly understand the motivation behind the EV themed production; they had to come up with some kind of "hook" to get people to watch, especially in light of the fact that they'd already done two of these documentaries previously, and the last one was 13 years ago. The EV's were a detriment to the production, however; their problems and limitations became the focus of the series, rather than just providing another sense of adventure the way some of the breakdowns in the original two series did. The documentary wasn't about the trip, it was about the vehicles and the technology.

I also felt like the interplay between McGregor and Boorman felt a little more forced than it did in the first two. Not surprising, since by their own interviews they'd kind of fallen off each others' radar in the intervening years since Long Way Down, until Boorman was injured in a motorcycle accident. Their friendship seemed less genuine in this one, and more of a relationship of convenience and financial benefit.

I've watched Long Way Round and Long Way Down multiple times; I doubt that I'll ever watch this one again. I'd rather watch Mondo Enduro again for the umpteenth time.

I started watching it but got bored with it and switched it off. It’s probably just me. I’ve been stuck at home watching shit TV for months now and I’ve just been told I need another 2 months to recover.

Strangely enough though, I’ve been caught up with Mandalorian which I didn’t expect..

I sort of enjoyed it, the first 3 episodes focused a lot on the charging issues, it got better in the middle and fell off at the end. Not as good as the first two series, there were far to many personnel around. As has already been said, I won't watch it again but I'll watch the other two.

I'd rather they'd have done it on smaller capacity bikes instead of electric, could have been entertaining.

I thought the show was a total dud.
It started with the whole electric charging issue that took way too much time of the series. Each time they ran into trouble I thought "should have taken a Super Tenere and would have had a ton more fun".
I also feel that since their first show there have been so many solo riders without multiple support vehicles that have done much harder rides, filming themselves with such high quality, that the whole setup is a little pathetic to call an adventure.
But what ultimately got me was how little they rode. What was that BS that they had to take boats and planes in Colombia because there were no roads? Seriously? And then the bus in Mexico? Pathetic! And then to top it all off, taking the Interstate all the way from the US/Mexican border to LA - what a waste of beautiful landscape and awesome roads.
I think "Meh" is too much of a compliment. Sorry Ewan and Charley, but this was a little to much Eco Tourism and not enough riding.
On the positive side: It wasn't as bad as "A story worth telling" :)

. . . . I'd rather they'd have done it on smaller capacity bikes instead of electric, could have been entertaining.
Smaller bikes would have been a more logical also. With the entourage that they had, they didn't need a big bike to carry their gear. Of course with correct sized bikes, their entourage probably couldn't have kept up.

They are "celebrities" so they won't be doing it solo without a support team like you and I are doing, and they also were filming the entire thing so I understand the number of people involved.

As for the electric vehicle part of it, I am not the biggest proponent of electric vehicles but how do you define adventure? Taking inappropriate vehicles to inappropriate places is one way I have heard it from the traveling sectors of my life. They definitely checked that box. It hadn't been done before, so no matter how few miles they took or the drama (much of it contrived) involved was all new ground.

All that said, it wasn't an amazing series to watch. It didn't suck, but it also wasn't something I was on the edge waiting for the next episode. Like it or not, that's your personal choice and it doesn't bother me one way or the other. Have a great day!

There's such a shortage of high quality bike content, that I'll watch anything. Can't say it's as good as the first two, but still worth a watch. Long Way Round combined with Easy Rider are the things that got me thoroughly into travelling by motorcycle instead if thinking of it as just a toy.

I will say that I was disappointed in the lack of detail. I understood it with the earlier series, but with data storage being so cheap now, and not having the requirement of a standard 10 episode series, they could have very easily extrapolated it into a much longer and more detailed series.

They condensed three months of travel into 10 hours of film, I'm sure there's a crap ton more there.

I enjoyed it but went into it with very low expectations. After the first few episodes they weren't so focused on the charging thing.

(FWIW, I thought the whole 'long way down' thing sucked because it felt so forced to have his wife ride with Ewan).

It was shot well, but the story didn't always flow, some things (like the bus) didn't have a clear explanation and seemed out of synch with how much time they seemed to spend on it.

I thought it was a good adventure story. They faced unique challenges, and it was interesting to see the flexibility necessary to overcome obstacles.

I just watched himalayan calling. It was good. I think I'll skip the long way down. I knew once I saw it was e bikes that I wouldn't like it. sounds like I was right.

I got annoyed with the last one when he brought his wife out. I've got to like the personalities to get into it and that star wars guy got on my nerves. I could tell his buddy felt the same.... Hahah
