all over the news tonight and this morning , a second wave of virus is coming , just in time to close down everything else all over again . that's what the experts are saying . I'm saying no more football , or any other sports , raging inflation and unemployment figures the world has never seen , social upheaval that will kill millions , a loss of freedom that will never come back . enjoy what you have now , because it will not last as this thing continues to dominate our lives . from a free people to a police state is not far away . they are training you for it now. dance monkeys dance.
Madhatter -

I hear your frustration and absolutely we ALL feel the same. Our leadership had MONTHS of warning, did not spool up test kits, implement the War Production Act to produce PPE, and now WE are trying to protect ourselves and families from something we never hear of a half year ago. So yes, it's scary and frustrating.

On the up side and because my daughter is involved, we've had a lot of discussions about the thing. Her point is that people think they are an expert because of what we read but few understand even the broad brush details. One example comes to the 85 year old versus other seniors, in that COVID itself doesn't kill too many people, it triggers their other weaknesses especially related to the lungs. He happened to be solid and healthy in the places COVID exploits vulnerabilities. Another thing my daughter comes back to when she sees pictures of crowds is that while people are generally more healthy these days, without sufficient (important term) medical facilities AND the other measures (distancing, masks, testing, contact tracing, etc) then COVID would absolutely be as deadly as many of the previous pandemics, as shown below.
This isn't a conspiracy, it's what we need to do to prevent that.

btw and for how FAST this thing is still growing, note that the above is from March.
Here we are at the end of May and COVID has now killed a known 346,000 people, almost 100,000 in the US alone. Just since this graphic was made, COVID now has killed more than Ebola, Yellow Fever, and the Swine Flue. It's already well past half as bad as the 18th Century Great Plagues.

And those are just the basic numbers without spin or politics.

Nevada's unemployment rate now exceeds that of the entire US at the peak of the Great Depression. Official reports put unemployment at over 28% here, and I expect that number to continue to climb. Even though we are starting to re-open, with casinos tentatively scheduled for June 4, there is no way our economy is going to "bounce back", and we are in for years of recovery. I really want to go back to work in the career I have built over the past 27 years, but that is really starting to look doubtful in the near term.

Apologies Chris. I'm always banging on about the jumping up and down molle-wearing 'open it up ' haircut protestors. I'm as bald as a cue ball so that is so very, very stabby of me and oh, so prejudicial. Sorry.

Now then, 'train wreck'? That analogy does not fit this thread and such hyperbole is not really required.

The train wreck is choo-choo-chooing along, spreading SARS-CoV-2 as it plumes.

Lets get this thread back on the track.
I think by "train wreck" he maybe means the thread has left the rails and is careening downhill out of control.

Hey RonH,
This shit is all gonna pass, don't know when, but we'll get together then.
Y'all heard it.
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you, dad"
"You know I'm gonna be like you"

Been missing Harry for a long time now. I was lucky to see him live a few times, the last a solo acoutical concert at the old Armadillo World Headquarters right here in Austin, Tx. Great storyteller and songs that gave many lessons if you paid attention.

Depends on if you are returning from the sea or heading out!
Point taken, but a correct orientation in this instance as we appear to be headed out to sea at the moment, not looking for the next big wave of coronavirus but rest assured it will find us regardless (regard-less referring to those who tout their right to not wear a mask in spite of the difference it could make to a loved one or friend).

Agree, the Wife bought a 20 pack of masks today, hmmm...should I wear one when riding?
I did a round robbin solo ride today up to the home town and home via my sister's for a lunch and a visit.
Total trip was approximately 580 km
Or what's that in miles...oh about 360.
Very hot up here in Ontario Canada right now...today was approximately 32C or hmmm..what's that, about 90 F.
I know y'all get higher than that, cause I spent a lot a time in Bama.
Couldn't drink enough water today, now home having a cool beer.

Weird weather patterns. I'd attribute it to global warming, except our president assured us there's no such thing (another of his conspiracy theories?). You're about 90 F today way up there and we barely got into the 80s down here in central Texas today. At 5:53, we're sitting at 74 F.
