I replaced mine on the 2012 for the $27 price and it did make a nice improvement, but only in the 3200RPM zone more or less. For $300-$400 I would not do it.

I replaced mine on my 2013 for the $32 price. It did make a slight improvement but not as much as I had hoped for. If I had to pay $300+ I would probably not do it.

Changed mine shortly after it became all the rage.

Honestly, I wasn't sure what the issue it reportedly resolved actually was. Or, if my bike suffered from the malady.
Turned out, much like the ecu reflash, the change was quite dramatic and a significant improvement.

Combine those 2 upgrades with a well sorted suspension, it's made it difficult to convince myself of upgrading to a gen2 Tenere.

I suspect I will at some point. And then be admonishing myself for not doing it earlier. :)

I was in the same boat. Didn't really detect any vibe. I went after the extra mass. What was it, 12oz? 10? It made a huge difference in the engine's manners for me. Very pleased. I did though wind up with an almost Royal Star volume gear whine. I don't really hear that any more, it mellowed out with a little wear. The RS4 might have done something there though. ::26::

I did mine after 6000 miles on a 2012. Big difference. The 3800 rpm vibe gone but also the walnut in a can rattle is also gone. Quiet idle!

I performed this upgrade spending close to $300.00. I would do it again in a hearbeat. My bike is so smooth in the 3-4k range now it is unbelievable. There are multiple springs that flop aound on the old basket. The 2014 basket is totally different. I got my parts from partszilla. You need to be sure to get the gasket and lock nut when you do the job. ::012::

Here is my experience with the clutch basket change. I had to do a valve check and wanted to change the timing chain tensioner on my 2012 so I thought what the heck I will change the clutch basket too and see what everybody is talking about. Wow! wish I had done that right after I got the bike. I did see one member mention he thought it throttled better. Mine definitely does. I have been riding around what I thought was a fueling issues but it was the springs compressing then rebounding in the dampening system of the original clutch basket being counter productive to the drive of the motor. Not sure if that wording makes any sense to you all but all I know is when I drive out of corners at low rpm's or take off from dead stops that crazy pull choke pull feeling is gone. Now it is pull the whole time as I roll the throttle on. Wish I had done this 40,000 miles ago! Not to mention the clutch is quieter now. The motor is still noisy though. ha ha.

There clearly must be a large range in quality of the original basket. Am I the only one that could barely tell any difference?

I never did mine and could never tell the difference when riding the bikes of other owners.

I did mine at 33k . Was not sure if it would make a difference , but after pulling it out it was about to blow the broken springs out of the hub . The new 1 made a nice difference at about 3200 rpm . My sons is still stock but fields tight and sounds good .

I am sure a 14+ basket had a positive effect on my 2013 with 26000 miles on it.
the original basket was very loose. It rattled a lot and had what sounded like a screeching noise around 3k.

all of that has now gone and my bike seems smoother and quieter than before. It was an expensive upgrade but I'm glad I did I did it.

It has made my bike a pleasure to ride just like the 2017 model I rode.

I was concerned about the throttle response as well before I put the heavier clutch basket in. I am guessing the extra weight is close to the center of the basket because it feels good. As a matter of fact my bike actually revs a bit quicker in gear going down the road and sitting in neutral just blipping the throttle. I am guessing that the collapsing primary damper springs were releasing counter productive energy that slowed the rev from my engine initially. Any way I am very happy with the change.

A question to those that have changed, does the heavier GEN2 basket affects the bike's response?
I found no performance negatives by going to the newer basket. I did find out how much I was trying quickly ride thru the 3,200 rpm range in order to minimize the vibration. Now with the '14 basket it's just go without any worries & no issues at any rpm.

Someone did the Gen2 basket change to his Gen1 bike and he says it seems to respond slower and making the bike feels less powerful. Do you guys who have a Gen1 bike with Gen2 basket feels like this?

He says that he is going to switch back to Gen1 basket when he gets a chance. Or perhaps he did something wrong in the assembly?

The extra mass will slow the spin up fractionally, sort of tames the twitchy-ness of the throttle. But the extra mass carries rpm's across the shift points much smoother. The extra mass/rpm will carry you over irregularities in the trail much smoother as well, think river crossings, baby-head boulder encrusted trails. Heavy flywheels are an off-roaders trick. Lightened flywheels are a drag racer trick. Many have gone after a high frequency vibration that seemed to be inherent in the coil spring dampened clutch basket. We've had at least one clutch basket disintegrate here, a second was coming apart. The rubber dampened basket seems to hold it's balance across the rpm range much better. I liked the change in the motor's manners. I got a little gear whine with the exchange. Not a problem though. I'm one of the ::008:: .

I don't know what he could have done wrong, but I didn't experience any kind of a negative effect. The only difference I saw was the vibration @ 3K rpm was gone. Listen to all the positive results, not one negative one.
