Spec Showdown: KTM 890 SMT Vs. Yamaha Tracer 9GT+

I, of course, am biased. And some of y'all are too. But I think this is going to come to the individual.

Interesting comparison but almost seems apples and oranges to me. For my money the Yamaha would be the right fit for me. I need a bike that can do everything every day of the year. Although I do like that new KTM 890 but the 890 R would be the model I would look at.

I agree. It is apples to apples, but due to path that each company took, kind turned it into the apples to oranges. I also agree with your choice, for the same reasons. But like I said, I'm biased.

Maybe the 890 Adventure (non R) would be a more equal comparison? It sort of depends what KTM did. Did they put 17" wheels and a small tank on an Adventure or did they put longer suspension on a Duke? Sort of looks like the first from the body panels. In that case it would share luggage with the adventure and only need a larger windshield to match the Yamaha. Will know better in the next couple of months.

The article mentioned that there was available luggage, but at an extra cost. That was why they said the Yamaha won on price. Didn't make sense until they explained that the Tracer came with the luggage and the KTM didn't. I still think it's gonna come down to the ride you want. They're the same, but different.
