KTM's attract some funny people. Some will swear up and down that they are just as reliable as Japanese bikes, others are a bit more honest with their experience.
I owned an '06 KTM 625 SMC, yes far from a current model, but I'm sure some of the same engineers are still there. Those geniuses drilled the threads for one header bolt a touch too far, into the open area of the cylinder head. Guess where it was leaking oil from? Well that, and a billion other spots. Wasn't just mine, I believe it was the whole model run.
When I was shopping around for what ended up being the S10, I very seriously considered the big KTM's. The various reliability issues reported very quickly steered me away. Things like fuel pumps getting clogged requiring replacements and an aftermarket filter solution, fuel boiling, and some other things.
Stupid of me, but I wouldn't mind owning another KTM bike as a fun toy, don't expect much reliability though.
