Spray on Revivex http://www.amazon.com/Gear-Aid-ReviveX-Waterproofing-Outerwear/dp/B00104HIB4/ref=sr_1_3?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1462292491&sr=8-3&keywords=revivex&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011

After your gear is dry, spray it with water from a bottle or sprinkle some on with your hands. If it beads up and rolls off the gear, you're good-to-go. Go riding! If it soaks in quickly, it's time to re-apply. KLIM and GORE-TEX(r) recommend spray-on DWR treatments like Revivex. This type of DWR is heat-activated. You spray it on your garment's exterior after the wash cycle and toss it in the dryer like normal. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Wash-in DWR treatments are not recommended as they coat all surfaces with the DWR and can negatively affect comfort and performance.

I have been washing by hand and using the Nikwax waterproofing and was going to respond with that, but your question got me to wonder if I was doing something wrong. So I called Klim Customer Service and the person said to:

Take the pads out, then zip it up and fasten all the Velcro doo-dads.

Throw it in the washing machine on gentle cycle, using any gentle detergent. She said that the ONLY thing to avoid was anything with any sort of bleach, and some laundry soaps do have some for that "extra whitening power." I've been using Woolite and she said it would be fine.

Do an extra rinse to make sure all of the soap is out.

The Use & Care instructions say:

Dry on warm- then on hot for the last 15 minutes. This re-activates the jacket's waterproofing, and if you use Nikwax waterproofer the heat is necessary to activate that.

Hmm... I have never heard this part of it and have been wearing cleaning washing Aerostich gear for YEARS... I must go read that. Can you point that info to me?

Thanks

I've hosed my jacket off a handful of times in 7 yrs.
It just went back to Klim for warranty work (zipper and weak velcro).
It looked brand new when I sent it to them.

I did use a candle to wax the zippers a few times.

BTW, i have an old 3/4 alpinestars jacket I'm using...god what a crappy fit compared to my klim badlands...I miss it. :'(

I ordered some revivex to do my orverland jacket and Darien pants. We'll see how it goes. They both still bead up, but I feel like it shouldn't look like it's going to soak as much. I my overland has about a year of wear and tens of hours of rain with no treatment, so it's probably due anyway.

I have been using Woolite for quite a while to clean synthetic textiles. Doing research on this subject I have found Woolite recommended several times but have never seen warnings against. I have been using it on the textile Nubuck shoes with no obvious ill effects, matter of fact it does a great job. I also use it mixed with water, 1:10 ratio, to clean helmet visors and wind shields. It does not attack the protective coatings. The great thing about Woolite is; readily available, economically priced.

I used the Nikwax cleaner and DWR restore. Then in the drier to activate it. Both my Klim Latitude and Aerostich Darien pants are clean and repel water like a mofo.
I'm happy.
