I posted this in this thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=5740.0 so sorry if it's too repetitive, but thought more folks might see it in a new topic.

Hi all, I live close to Kansas City, MO & am going to be taking some vacation time after Christmas & plan to head south to do some riding. I was thinking about New Mexico/Arizona, so I posted in the Southwest region forum asking for ideas on places to ride & got suggestions about the Texas hill country
: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6521.0

I've been looking at some places & have a tentative plan to load the bike on my toyhauler RV & am going to check out some campgrounds in the area of Wimberly, TX. I see there is a road called the devil's backbone that looks like a good one. Just thought I'd check in here to see what other rides you'all know about. Not quite sure of the dates yet, but will probably be 1st/2nd week of Jan. & if anyone wants to go riding, that would be cool too... Thanks,
Wayne K.

I've ridden the devil's backbone more than once. . . Its ok, but nothing special. The 3 sisters ( FM 335, 336 ,337) and roads around Kerrville are much better and more scenic. That area would be my first choice.

If I go riding in that neck of the woods we're going to Lockhart for the best BBQ in the universe. It turns out KC ain't got nothing on Lockhart. :D
Hey, sounds good to me, I was prepared to search the universe, but this will save some time!...lol...sure is nice of you to offer to spring for the BBQ!...(0_0)...(^.~)...

Ok, I got done celebrating Christmas in OK (by eating everything in sight) & made it to TX. I'm at Wimberley with the rv. The weather's a bit cool, but I'll get the bike unloaded & see about exploring some in the next few days. Thanks everyone for your thoughts!

Hey Oldude, When you get back home send me a note. I also live in Kansas City and just got my Tenere a month ago. Still boltiing on accessories, and squeezing in rides when the temps are above 40 ish. I moto and bicycle the Hill Country but usually the second week of March. I recommend you stop by Luckenbach Friday afternoon or Saturday. Thats Texas. I haven't been this time of year, but even if its slow someone will probably be in the back room of the store pickin a guitar. Friday afternoons there are usually lots of riders having a brew and listening to some country music, however those are mostly HD riders so they may (probably) not be out if the temps are cool. Marble Falls is a good ride. A big lake there and the Blue Bonnet Cafe serves Texas good pie. The LBJ ranch gives a nice tour, and its with the time. Fredricksburg has great restaurants and good roads to the South. Most all the back roads there are one lane and paved. The locals say thats due to Lady Byrd living near by. Lots of cattle guards to cross, but they are all in good shape. Be careful if you stay out past dusk, deer are like rabits there and they take to the roads at dawn and dusk. Have a good trip.

ok, I made it back from Texas last Thursday, I had a good trip although had to fight some cool wet days. Thanks everybody for the suggestions and info. I was able to ride the 3 sisters my last day there and it was definitely worth it! Made a stop at Luckenbach, spent a rainy day in San Antonio, and went to Enchanted Rock State Park. Met some friendly folks. I hope to go back down again in a bit warmer weather. Got a few pics:
