. . . . Personally, I would have bought a GS if it didn't cost twice nearly twice as much as my S10, plus infinitely higher maintenance/repair costs.
Well. . . . duh. I'd have to put myself in that same group. . . . as many here would. :) The GS has the supermodel looks, and the high maintenance to match. The Tenere is the girl next door. Decent looks, supportive. . . . but can still rock your world.

Thanks guys for all the responses. Yea, I figured it's a biased forum but the ST is getting love on ADV as well so that's a good sign. Gen 2 electric suspension for 2 up is huge and I didn't realize it til now.
Fortnine is great. I watch most of his stuff.

I'm in the midwest (KY) so I'll have to find one to check out in person and go from there.

Gonna lurk around here as much as possible. Thanks again everyone!
FT, if you do go the ST route, stick with the forum. There’s an incredible amount of knowledge on here, on all aspects of bike ownership, both generic and model specific. I’m pretty sure that all ST questions/issues/concerns have been or can be covered and answered on here.

As well as the informative bike stuff, there’s a wealth of knowledge and experience around biking and the things we like to do, touring, camping, off tarmac stuff, etc. Forum members are generally a friendly and helpful bunch.

And of course, you’ll be bring your own experiences and knowledge too

I’ve owned two Tenere’s, 2013 and 2018 they are great bikes but if I was buying a new adventure bike today it would most likely be a 2020 AFrica Twin with cruise control, tubeless tires and DCT transmission. I have been a Honda fan for many years, my Goldwing currently has 556,000 miles and still runs like new.

You can't go wrong with a Honda AT or Super Tenere. Both very reliable machines.

I went through the same thought process a couple years ago, wanted to ride not be stranded or have big servicing bills ended up with the ST and happy for it. Funny, they guy I bought it from in Florida had previous BMWs and a laundry list of things that went wrong that would never happen on a ST (final drive, ignition key lock etc). I drive a Honda Accord, no drama, just ride....

For me, it was a toss-up between the African Twin and the ST. In the end the ST won out because practically all my previous bikes were Yamahas and the shaft drive. But having ridden my mate's AT recently, they are a beautiful bike.

That's what's throwing me. My two buddies that have GS's haven't mentioned anything about maint. etc. could be their biases, who knows. A quick compare on cycle trader on 2017 models. The GS is +6k.
Found one at a Yamaha dealer not far away. Don't think they're doing demos but at least I can poke around at it.
