I'd go in for a group buy as well. Safari or OdysseyII? So far their web site only lists the OdysseyII for the Tenere...
The medium-size Odysseys are up first, then the other sizes and the Safaris will come later. Like the GS versions, the Safaris will be at least $200 more. I talked to Xplormoto about this a while ago cos I thought I might prefer the smaller Odysseys - there are supposed to be 90L (about an inch narrower) and 112L versions coming, but they are not even on the web site yet so I think they will be a while. Can't wait! Mine were ordered 6 weeks ago.

The 105's are pretty spacious, but not wide so that's the main thing to me. Other than that, it's down to my own self-control not to load them up too much!

Jesse has a Super Tenere in the shop and they are fitting the cases to it and doing the final adjustment... After they get his perfect on the bike, they will be set to manufacture the rest of us a set.

I guess the good news is that they are working out the final bugs on the shop bike (with 0 (zero) miles on it)... so the rest of us won't have too buggy of an installation.

Jesse Luggage Update

Update: 8/6/2011. Jesse has pretty much dialed in everything for the Odyssey II Luggage System. According to Al, he will be doing a photo shoot on Monday the 8th. As soon as I get the pics, I'll get them up on the web. Also, there's a good chance he'll be able to leave the passenger grab rails without sacrificing any extra width. Hang in there guys, we appreciate the patience from the loyal Jesse customers. :)

+1 on the group buy. Odyssey II black for me. I hope they get them going soon. Fall is coming and that means having lots of stuff for changing weather.

I too have been one of the many "undecided's" Never have had big cases (the Multistrada side cases were shaped and smallish, not like these giant crates we are all looking at. So go cheap and try the boxes and if I don't like them no big loss? Go BIG and spend the farm on a set? Ride around for a while and decide? How big is enough, how big is too much? Too big and there is side clearance issues (Zegas are like 39" wide!) cause I lane split here in Ca. Too small and regret it. Too big and carry too much stuff. Soooooooo many possibilites and we have not even talked about Pelicans, soft bags or Big Loop bags.

Man some of these are approaching 2 grand all in with taxes and shipping. I can buy another vintage two stroke for the cost of these cases!!

But I am drifting toward the Jesse's because they are only 34 1/2" in 101 liters. Very tidy looking and nice mounts. I am drawn Walter Mitty style to the boxes, sort of the "adventure" statement I may need to make even though the Pelicans are bombproof and were my first choice (as well as a lot cheaper).

Likely will all depend on how much money is available. Any chance/interest in a group buy for the Jesse's

Bags are like the hard drive in your computer, in that they have 2 states of existence: new and full. :D

How many rides around the world or to the ends of the continent are you going to do? My thought is to ride the bike for a while and see how big you really need. A duffel on the back seat or two will get you through weekend trips and once you start leaving behind all the stuff you never use, the size boxes you ultimately buy will be smaller. Smaller means easier to get through and less of a beast to handle.

Some interesting points have been made on the hard bags. I travel a lot by motorcycle and ride a far higher than normal number of miles per year than the average rider. Cost is an issue for a lot of riders and $1,000 + for a set of bags seems like a lot but I have always sold my Jesses after lots of miles for 50- 60% of their value

I am buying Jesses for a few reasons. Firstly, I want a narrow profile for lane splitting when I am in California, and secondly based on the last two rides I made to the far north the bikes I saw that had gone down and were still being ridden all had with the exception of Jesse equipped bikes one or both bags missing or tied on top. I know all about the tying on top because I carried a Happy Trails home on each trip that one of my riding pals had ripped off in a slowish 25MPH get off in gravel.

We had friends on a RTW (4 years and just completed) stay with us and their Zega Panniers were a constant issue and they said if they were to do it again they would have bought Jesses.

We have Jesses on 2 bikes (soon to on be three bikes ) and they are keyed the same - another plus of Jesses.

Being a creature of habit all my bikes are packed all the time the same way for the on road essentials [tools, first aid. tire repairs, (zip lock with half roll off toilet paper, baby wipes and hand cleaner) etc] and so having a consistent packing system as part of owning multiple bikes makes life easier. I have found that packing tank bags the same way, tire gauge always in the right outside pocket with pocket knife and flashlight makes on the road travel easier.

The security of Jesses makes unloading the bike at night easier. I take my GPS off the bike, unhook the tank bag, undo the Rok Straps and remove my small Ortlieb zip bag http://www.bestrestproducts.com/p-120-ortlieb-waterproof-travelzip.aspx with all my clothes and toiletries, stuff my gloves in my helmet and walk away from the bike.

It takes 2 minutes. Everything in my right Jesses is for on the road travel or climate adjustment (heated gear, rain suit spare gloves and my camera gear.) the left bag is for bike maintenance and road food. Neither bag is completely full.

They have to be getting close. They have pics on the jesse bags web site. Still no instructions. And when you click on price you get routed indirectly to the Xplorermoto website.

How many sets would we have to order to get some special pricing as a group buy?

Thanks Rick. Will the rear rack and/or quick release top case rack be available here soon as well?

Thanks,

Brad

Jesse has a prototype of a rear rack & top box mount. I don't have a release date right now, as the factory is still building mounts & boxes for orders & inventory. I would think when things get caught up, Jesse will have more time to finish developing it.

Rick (Xplorermoto), I have recently talked with a couple Tenereista's and the same question is asked. If they called and ordered the Safari 9" saddle bags and brackets when would they be shipped? Thanks.

screwed by jesse luggage... Al Jesse sold the company so it all make sense now

Monday mar 12 i called Jesse 9am to say i needed a bracket to switch my brackets to my new bike. i was leaving on a trip Thurs morning (mar 15). I wanted overnight so i had time to get the racks mounted and pack. Dee insisted she would ship Monday the 12thand 2 day shipping was OK. since it was 9am i figured she could pull it off and i reluctantly agreed. by Tuesday the 13th i hadn't heard anything so i contacted Dee for a tracking #. When i got the # it showed the shipping label wasn't even printed until Tuesday the 13th and it was due by me Thurs the 15th by 830 PM....
I contacted Dee again to see what was going on and she said she had mailed it and everything would be OK. I stressed to her I was leaving town Thurs 9am and wouldn't even be in town to receive the package. She insisted everything would be OK.
WED march 14th... when the mail came at lunch time the package wasn't there. I checked the tracking to find out the package hadn't even arrived in my state yet. I spent Wed afternoon fabricating new spacers and the bracket and mounted my racks. Then packing the bike.
Thursday 15th.. Since i was riding past the post office on my way out of town, I stopped in and gave them the tracking # and told them to return it. He looked it up and said it was in the truck out back and if I waited an hour the truck would be unloaded and he would give it to me.
When i got home days later i saw that Jesse had received my package back but never refunded me. After 3 days back and forth I finally received an 80% refund. Dee said since i returned it I got hit with 20% restocking fee. WTH? I never saw the package. Al Jesse would never put up with that bullshit...
