I rode from Virginia to Hendersonville NC to meet my son and go to a motorcycle show. Lots of awesome old motorcycles and we ate dinner in Asheville. Time to head home and I look at GPS-We are a couple miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and I live three miles from the Northern entrance to the BRP. 400 miles of beautiful mountain road with no traffic and not a single stoplight takes me within 5 minutes of my driveway. I did a little bit Saturday and slept in Pineola NC and finished the trip Sunday. I can not imagine a more enjoyable trip by motorcycle.

A couple of years ago , I rode it southbound with a group of buddies , in continuous rain and fog for several days . Soaking wet , the fog got so bad on the peaks that I had to abandon the blue ridge for shelter and beverages in the Holiday Inn in Boone . Some of the other guys could somehow see , and kept riding , but I was watching the yellow line by my front wheel , the only reference point I could see .

Later , northbound by myself in hot , clear weather , I ran into heavy , slow traffic . I swore I'd take a room at the first spot that offered , a super pricey resort overlooking , I think , the Shenandoah valley . Gorgeous ! Did I say pricey ?

The next morning I hit the road about 4:30 am , and had the entire road to myself ( and the turkeys and the deer ) , with the sun rising over my shoulder , and had the most wonderful ride for hours on end .
