Hi eric, I'm addressing your argument and not you personally in accordance with forum rules. I found your comments disrespectful of the author and very arrogant. Your argument also assumes you speak for all forum members. You do not speak for me. I can usually pick satire and sarcasm at a good distance. I would be happy to send some tips on how to do this if it will help your demeanour. I enjoy the jokes even in the technical pages. It shows intelligence above the animals that we can do so. I respectfully request that you tone down your critisicm of the members and find a nicer way to address their behaviour if it is not to your standard. Really? Frozen oil to be used as grease?? Haha. A gem. Cheers mate.

No apology from me on this one. I did not attack Chris, only commented on his content. Or lack of content.

If you value posts w/o useful content, that's sad. I do not. I have asked Chris to share his direct, first hand experience with the Super Tenere. He has shared some excellent info. This was not one of those posts.

My opinion is only my own. I find deliberately inaccurate posts to diminish the quality of this forum. Engine oil in the final drive is deliberately inaccurate.

The Post offered no useful information. It asked no questions. It added nothing to the conversation. (Much like this one)

Not everyone reading the forum is knowledgeable. Yes, most will grasp the outright lie of freezing oil to use as grease.

If you have read Chris's content, you will see other times when his posts have been questioned as satire and he has clarified that it was his honest belief/opinion, despite appearance to the contrary in some cases.

So when I ask, I'm quite frankly not sure. His content is that diverse. Some is merely incorrect. Some is from lack of experience with this platform. Some is excellent.

I suggest to you again that the value in this forum is in providing information to each other and sharing our first hand experiences.

Posting satire and misinformation serves no one.

This thread is giving me a headache. I think I'll go out to the garage and give my bike a tune-up. You know, the usual, new blinker fluid, synchronize my muffler bearings, and torque my spokes with my right handed torque wrench. :)
Are you using lithium or standard grease on your muffler bearings, I've been thinking of upgrading to lithium but am not sure if it is beneficial... And the yamaha manual is terribly unclear on this point!

Yamaha recommends 75w-90. It can be any brand, but Mobil 1 and Valvoline are the most prevalent.
Where are you guys getting this figure. My owner's manual for my XT1200ZE recommends 80w-90. Does it make any difference?

I use the Yamalube as well, no problems. There are guys here that are using other brands full synthetic I believe. I recall them saying the final drive runs cooler that way.

But uhhh are you really living in Japan?

Oil 80w90 and 80w, GL4, have been on the market for many years. The GL5 oil has been on the market for less time and the 75w90 oil is surely GL5 and synthetic, and must be the one that has been on the market for the shortest time…..but any of them is suitable for the S10 differential. Although GL5 is superior to GL4 (because of the additives it contains), you have to be very careful with GL5 and bronze. The GL5 destroys the bronze. In transmissions, bronze is usually found in gear shift synchronisers, in bushings, and in older cars, "sometimes" the differential pinion and crown were made of bronze. Either way. the S10., does not have bronze in its differential…..
Synthetic 75w90 oils exceed or equal the GL5 regulations in terms of lubrication, but maintain the restriction of Bronze (GL4)

Thanks for the feedback. I've got 100 ml of Motul 75w-90 final drive oil left over (rated GL-4/GL-5) and just bought Yamaha's GL-5 80w-90 final drive oil. I hate to throw out the Motul, can I use it together with the Yamaha oil in the next FD fluid change?
