Why no answer? I was and am 100% serious. If you want this thread to go into the trash bin why continue to open it, read posts and comment?

Wouldn't the appropriate and better action be to just ignore the thread(s)? I do that with many threads that do not interest me. Why desire to restrict others that have interest in a thread and care to share/interact?

Well I had pretty much quit reading this thread until the wrecker dude added the poll to it, so I voted to get rid of it, when I voted I believe it was pretty close to 100% of voters that voted to get rid of it but a week later the thread is still here so now I’m wondering if the vote was just talk to draw more attention to the thread or what ? This is supposed to be a motorcycle forum not a politics forum.

Why have any rules and moderators at all? Would it be prudent to have a Porn thread? Just don’t open it. How about an Abortion thread? A thread on Religion? The argument to just not open such threads is weak...
So how do you avoid all of the above on the unfiltered internet? It is all out there in abundance. Answer is you don't click on it if you come across it correct? Why not do the same here? That is not a weak argument.

And why continue to post and propagate a thread you don't want to participate in?

Not going to belabor this further. My point is made and clearly you and others see things differently.

Funny ending side note. I do frequent a local motorcycle forum that has a hardcore pornography subforum. But that same forum has a zero tolerance for politics. Lol

Well. If that is your opinion then I am sure you are 100% behind getting rid of the vaccine, gun thread, food porn (are you a vegan ffs?), mineral vs synthetic oils, etc threads.???

I think maturity prevails, yes? Don't like socks with flipflops??? Don't click on the thread!!! I'm not sure it could be more simple.

AAAAhhhhhh, unless you clicked on the socks and flipflops thread thinking it would be the 100% backup to your wearing socks? And - on discovery that everyone is not in piety to your beliefs - we start again down that, I'm holier than thou path...

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Unless.........unless, you want to get rid of any opinion. Which would be great - except (ironically) - you put yours forward...

If you want to look at pornography there’s plenty of places to do so. If you want to be anti (insert religion here) there are plenty of places to do that.

But as a small community and forum, having threads, especially at a raw time in politics, is a bad choice.

I’ve had members state their reluctance to come to a Super Tenere rally because some troll wants to stir up “discussion” on a subject that doesn’t belong here.

We’ve had members leave and delete all their post history. More than once. Enough times to have to limit the time one can edit posts. Sad to see some of them leave. It erodes at the community.

You asked: My opinion.
I actually thought about starting a religion thread with the same title as this thread to make a point but my better judgment held me back.
I wish Matt would have done the same

I added the poll a little less than 4 days ago and put it on a week timer. Time must run really slow in Wisconsin.
;)

I'm open to keeping or closing this thread and while it was initially almost 100% to close like Cycledude wrote, the count for keeping it seem to be rising.

BE AWARE - Starting any of the following will be seen as trolling while this experiment is going on and that new thread will be deleted without warning:
Religion
Abortion
Porn
The nuking of gay baby whales
etc

I was making a point that religion and politics are essentially the same when it comes to inflamed threads.
I am no troll and never have been.
I also believe a moderator should moderate and not pick a side on a hot topic but hey that's just me.
Peace

When some people avoid certain topics like religion, politics and other things they feel strongly about, is it because they can't tolerate views or opinions that divert from their own - and/or is it because they feel insecure and are afraid to be swayed - or is it because they think it's impolite to disagree - or..?

I'm comfortable taking up any topic - both online and irl.
Some of my closest friends and family disagree with me on many important things. That doesn't make our relationship any less meaningful - rather the opposite.
I find it interesting to hear other people's opinions even when I don't agree and never will. It widens my horizon.

If this is a MC forum only why are there threads about Xmas, Asshole pets, Covid Vaccine, Dr Who, Texting, Government Shutdown, Government Regulation, Bradley Manning and (4)threads discussing the NFL. By the way I do not celebrate Xmas, I don't care for British sci-fi, and I am not a fan of any kind of spectator sportsball. Still I don't object to those threads, I just don't open them. It is that simple.
Sorry, but your argument does not hold water

If one is so obtuse that they can’t distinguish between a political thread and a pet thread-there’s not much hope.

Now I’m getting a feeling that common sense is anything but common.

As guessed, this thread faded away on Wednesday so while it is tempting to leave it,

with the vote of 60% to 40% the thread is closed and we are back to no politics.
