Hi,
I learned that Super Tenere is no longer offered in Europe since this year,
buit got some really good deal on new black tech St1200ZE 2019 left over.
I was actually planning get new Africa Twin but stumbled on this last one in my country.
Very tempting, what do you think?
If I was in the market for a new bike, I’d certainly choose a Super Tenere over an Africa Twin, especially if there’s a good deal to be had.

In all honesty though, if I were to buy a new bike, I wouldn’t consider either.

Now it's hard to say since a variety of Africa Twins are for sale, which one were you considering? The build quality on the S10 is much better than the 2016 AT I owned and it was a better tarmac tourer, especially loaded with luggage/passenger. The Honda was better on dirt with the 21" wheel but they're both fine on dirt roads.

because it's the last new tenere in my country price is not maybe that good as I got almost the same offer for new Africa Twin Adventure Sport, just a bit higher.
plus Super Tenere is 2019 and AT is 2021 :) so definitely I lose on residual value :)

So what would you get if you were shopping today ?

I’d be looking at the KTM 1290S, the S1000XR, the new Tracer 9 GT, perhaps even the newest version of the big VStrom. There might be others, they’re just off the top of my head. I also quite like the Z1000SX, but I think it’d be too cramped for me. I also quite like the 1050 Tiger, was hoping a new one would appear, however the last version was a nice and very capable bike.

I don’t go off road at all, so don’t really need a true adventure bike, however they fit my frame well and I quite like the way they look and ride. I’ve had an adventure bike since 2003, but I have no loyalty whatsoever to any brand.

problem with honda AT this bike is so fragile, feels cheaply build comparing to ST. I go offroad a lot so I need dual sport bike.

Ok, let's break this down. You state in post 1 that you were going in the shop to actually buy the AT but the S10 looked tempting for the same money. Later you say that you would lose on the residual value of the S10 as it is 2 years older, so already looking to sell a bike that you don't even own! Then you state that the bike you were going in the shop to buy is really fragile, despite going in to buy it. Yeah but, no but...

You're a whole world of contradictions and the bike you crave doesn't exist.

Consumer Reports National Research Center surveyed more than 11,000 riders who purchased 12,300+ new motorcycles. The study asked them to answer two key questions: Did they experience any problems and repairs, and if so, which ones? And at the end of the day, were they satisfied with their purchase?
Got anything more up to date? This is five years old. I'm sure BMW still isn't above Yamaha, though.

I bought a 2017 AT DCT a few months back20210218_151259.jpg and I was a little underwhelmed ... the DCT was a bit odd but strangely I liked using the gear shift on the handle bar and got used to that. I also think the 21" front wheel looked wierd on my black AT, the exhaust note even on standard can was lovely though and the Remus I had was nice. I think the new version of the 1100 in red, white and blue looks great.

Having said all that ... lack of shaft, some poor quality fixings, a stupid battery placing and falling out with the colour made me feeling like I could not bond with it ... so the S10 Worldcrosser stole my heart away ;)

the super Tenere is a great bike but it rarely gets any love from the magazines etc.... my neighbor has the Africa twin and he is always wanting to ride my Tenere when ever we ride together .... it is not as good as the Tenere in any way .... though it is lighter and if you have to pick it up that may count for something . I have had 2 now my 12 and now my 19 ES ..... a bigger fan of the non ES 12 than the 19 , but I have not really given the 19 much of a chance as I have barely been on it . honda had a chance to really shine with the AT but let it slip through their fingers as a parts bin bike , hell it has tubes . pick anything but that bike and you will be ahead .

That is true and the new one is a much better bike than the previous versions ... however, still no shaft and very expensive, it is a cracking looker though

yeah, definitely AT would better better at pulling chicks LOL

Chain is not a problem for me though. Never had shaft, this would be my first one.
I would prefer ST had chain as well and be 20 kg lighter :)

You will soon appreciate the shaft ... there is no 'shaft takeup' that older shaft drive bikes had, not that I notice anyway ... and no hassel and no maintenance worrys on Euro tours will be great ;)
