Went for a Christopher Columbus ride today with 2 other guys from my group. One had a tiger 800xc and the other a GS1200. I had the bike in sport mode and was shifting as fast as I could but they were leaving me in the dust. Shift points were at around 4K. I know that chain bikes are faster than shaft bikes and the 800 is lighter than mine and so is the GS. Is there that much difference in performance or just me? BTW, I have a 14 non ES, non modified bike.

Bump up your shift revs. 4k rpm is touring range. Dont worry we have a rev limiter so you cant overdo it. After that a reflash will give more gains.

A test in 2014 by ADV Pulse reported the water cooled GS (11.04) and Super Tenere ES (11.69) seconds in a full quarter mile. Zero-to-sixty times reported (11.2) on the Triumph 800XC.

So, yes, with a stock S10, coupled maybe with a slow reaction time, and shifting at 4K revs would probably "leave you in the dust" as you described. Perhaps an exhaust and ECU remap is in order, and go try again :)

Shift points between 5,500 - 6,500 and you will find a different Tenere.

As above and dont bother with the clutch you dont need it changing up.

At 4K shifts, you left a lot of HP off the road. Every bike gets it's HP from RPM's. (Unless it's electric)
Riding style and ability is the biggest factor in keeping up with someone though.
A skilled rider can always out pace someone even with a lower HP bike.
That is, if you don't live in the great FLAT plains, where all the roads are straight and flat. YUK.

Always listen to your sphincter, don't try and keep up if your ass is telling you different. It's not the bike, just ride the one you own faster....

All you on this one I think. Also first I've heard that all chain bikes are faster. I've owned a bunch of shaft,chain,and belt drive bikes and find the pilot and to some extent the chassis and engine are most the answer of being smooth and fast.

Thanks again everyone. This is the first full year with the bike and I'm still learning about it and how it handles. I'm not always in a hurry when I ride, and I ride because like the rest of you because you like to ride. I think it also makes a difference if your familiar with the roads and the sphincter has never steered me wrong yet and If I get left behind, I have a GPS and my phone to make it home. ::001::

I take it your 14 S10 is a gen 2 with the new LCD display



It might not make sense at first - to me the rpm makes sense if you look at it in 2 parts... the curve, then the top flat part.
the curve = nice easy riding range
top flat part = ffffffffun stufffffff

sooo.

your shifting at 4k rpm is not even over the curve looking at the display
...if you want some fun keep the rpm is the top horizontal part of the rpm display.

Like others wrote, flog it and let the limiter protect the motor. You used about as much power as a 650-700cc bike and less than my 690 KTM.
