Just completed my Iron Butt Assoc. SaddleSore 1000.

Did 1020 miles in 19hr 41m elapsed time, 16hr 36m riding time. Would have been less time but ran into accident that blocked I-5 for about 30 minutes, and hit a mess of traffic around Eugene, Oregon where they were holding the US Olympic Field & Track trials. Not to mention the slowwww holiday traffic heading to the Oregon coast and several long waits along Hwy 101 for bridge work. I did allow myself one indulgence, a 30 minute stop for breakfast at 3am.

It was much windier and cooler on I-5, coming up from the Bakersfield area than I had anticipated. Glad I brought my jacket liner, and that I had heated grips. I need to work on some upper extensions for the stock handguards, just not enough coverage. The Squadron LED driving lights were a blessing, no outrunning your headlights with these things!

The bike used 25.037 gallons of fuel for 40.74 MPG average.

Ran great. The Bill Mayer seat was fantastic. Used no oil.

Next, the BunBurner Gold 1500 - 1500 miles in 24 hours.

Congrats on the Iron Butt! ::012::

I agree that those hand guards could use a little help. I've been thinking about just that the last couple days up here in NW-Canada. I think I saw someone in here did a nice job riveting some flaps on the top of the guards.

A buddy and I did a 1000 mile ride on the 4th as well. From Tacoma to Missoula Mt and back. Started about 5 am and was home for midnight. Weather couldn't have been better and almost no traffic to speak of. The bike did great but the seat still needs some work. A kako throttle lock was the one farkle that made the trip possible. I don't think I'll be doing something like that again any time soon ::001::

Congrats to everyone on their rides, cert or otherwise. Sometimes this is an awakening, where you realize things are closer together than you thought before. Other times it's simply a personal achievment to prove to yourself that you could acomplish the goal. Hell, sometimes it's just because you need to get there too. :D Regardless of why, now you know that you can. You can have a lot of fun with these type of rides and then there are endurance rallies too, where you're doing similar miles, and adding a scavenger hunt to the mix as well. Often the miles go easier on a rally, because you're more mentally occupied.

Here is a fairly good listing for various rides and events of the Long Distance variety. http://www.therally.us/rides.html

Congrats.
Did another on June 4th and find this bike SO much easier to do LD than I could with the FJR.
