Taken form the Bike Magazine (February 2019!) I've just received through my front door.

Nice when someone in the press is positive about the S10!

Mike
Obviously the author of this article had an enjoyable bit of riding on a S10 in one of the many different scenarios the S10 was meant for.
He now knows what many of us here on this forum have already known for quite so time.

Personally, I've always enjoyed being underestimated; it makes the victory even sweeter. Competent & unassuming....yeah....that's the Tenere.

It's so uncommon here that when I went to the dealer I bought it from and asked the parts girl for an oil filter she wanted to know if it was a personal watercraft. She was apparently hired for her looks, not her brains. I don't know how many times I have been asked " That's cool, what the hell is it ?"

"All the GS without the BS" is still my mantra.

I don't think I'd be as generous as to call the motorcycling world's reaction to the S10 as "underestimated". Non-existent seems more descriptive. How many shoot-outs have you seen that didn't even include the S10, not even as the butt of a joke? I'm amazed when I see a DL1000 in a comparison with a GS, a KTM, and a Multistrada, but the S10 is nowhere to be seen, and not even a mention. This bike must have a Romulan cloaking device installed as an option on this bike, and it's just not listed on the spec sheet.

Get used to that. I now just tell people to Google a Super Tenere; I got tired of trying to describe her to people. My opinion is that if a bike doesn't have a "beak" or a flashy paint scheme, the moto-journalists don't believe it's not worth talking about. She's the motorcycle version of the girl next store, not a beauty queen, but great to be with. ;)

Great pity to know that's in Bike. Just hope the uk sheep dont all start selling their GS's for an S10.
It's been a well kept secret until now.

The Aprilia Tuono I have has cured me of running euro bikes. The local dealer moved to Charlotte 2.5 hours away. Now I can't get rid of the freaking thing. I think my son is going to trade it in this next spring on a new Rmz 450x. I never even considered a GS because of this.

Back when I was riding the Beemer, there were only seven dealers in the entire state of Texas. On the other hand, there were seven Honda dealerships in the Dallas/Ft Worth area alone. But, having a close dealer isn't that important when your bike doesn't break. I can't remember the last time I rode anything from Japan that needed anything from the dealer beside scheduled/routine maintenance, tires, or oil. The Beemer on the other hand....

A near by dealer is pretty important to me, the closest bmw dealer is about 150 miles, I believe there are only 3 bmw dealers in Wisconsin. The stories I hear about bmw warranty make it pretty easy to resist buying one. But I do like some of the bikes bmw builds.

Like most journos in the UK, the Bike guys have always bigged up the GS. The poor old S10 has languished at the back of the class, often I suspect because Yamaha don't throw any lavish launch beanos or pay for as much advertising space in their various organs. So I find it a bit rich to find Bike highlighting the S10s virtues at this late stage.

Yes I read the reports & tests in Bike, but I take them all with a large pinch of salt. For instance, they scored the Niken well, yet ask your dealer & you will find sales are dire - riders know best & have been voting with their wallet it seems.

To ME, the Niken reminds me of the GTS. An exercise in engineering, that did/does not sell well. I knew a Yamaha mechanic that had owned one. He said the GTS was great as long as it was doing at least 20mph; at slow speeds the steering was quite heavy. They both look quite futuristic.

Heck, around here the sales people don't know what it is.

However, a couple months ago I got pulled over. The 1st thing the officer said was "how do you like your Tenere?". I knew right then, I would get off with a warning.;)

Self fulfilling prophecy. Maybe the reason they never sold one is because they didn't stock one?

My local Yamaha shop is the same. Nobody wants bikes. Gee, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the newest street bike you have is a '15 FJ09 hidden in the back storage room, hidden behind 6 generators and four snowmobiles?
