Great summary line:
After 15 years of formulating and testing oils, one thing has become abundantly clear: The application always dictates the chemistry. When choosing an oil, don't start with the oil. Instead, start by defining the application—gas or diesel, boosted or NA, drag race or street, etc.

And...
This was embedded in the oil article and is a great discussion about various gasolines.

Where is the motorcycle analysis
Is that there is no analysis referred to motorcycles. The analysis compares the “object” of each lubricant…..Perhaps, since you mention “where is the motorcycle analysis”…..we could add “where it says Rotella T6 oil, which is recommended for gasoline motorcycles?”

I would be pragmatic concerning oil. 1. Why do we change it? (To make our bike last). 2. Has using Rotella caused any premature failures ? (None that I have heard of. ) 3. You are free to use 10 a quart motorcycle specific oil or a $20 jug of T6. Both will get the job done.

Hell If you want a win win, take the savings and change the oil more often. It certainly won’t hurt anything. This has been well tested by many member some have even sent their oil to tested.

The Oil Religious Wars Continue (Unfortunately :( )

Thats what I use 15-40 full syn rotella. seems to work good. just wanting info on how diesel oil is or is not compatible with the bearings and bearing surfaces of a motorcycle engine.

Motorcycle engines are more like car engines than diesel engines. They do have the added load of transmission lubrication and higher RPM operation on average than car engines and especially diesel engines. The RPM/Zn relationship discussion was what caught my attention.

About 44,000 of the 93,000 miles on my S10 were done with non motorcycle oils. 20,000 of those miles were with Rotella T4 15W-40, and 24,000 of them were with O'Reilly Auto 10W-40. I had an oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs this year at 88,965 miles. The analysis showed that the levels of wear metals present in my oil were low next to averages for a bike of mine's age and mileage, and their opinion was the internal parts were getting along well. At the time of the analysis, just about half the accrued miles were on non motorcycle specific oils, and about a quarter of them were with Rotella diesel oil. If Rotella diesel oil had an adverse effect on the moving parts of an engine, I think 20,000 miles would have been enough to at least display an above average amount of wear on those moving parts.

I stopped using Rotella several years ago, mainly because the oil I was using (the T4 10W-40 non synthetic) dropped their API certification for gasoline engines.

I did find out very recently that Rotella now offers a product called T4 15W-40 NG Plus, which does carry the API certification for gasoline engines (along with diesel and natural gas engines). I've never seen it in a store, and I couldn't find any information on whether it carried the JASO MA/MA2 certification.

For the sake of accuracy, that should read T4 15W-40. I just noticed that, and it was too late to edit it.
