Insurance Co. recommendation

Just purchased a new '18 Tenere and was surprised at the insurance premium, $900 per yr. for comprehensive with a $1000 deductible.
We live in a Kansas City suburb and I'm 67yoa with a perfect driving record. I've been with Progressive for 15 years and this is the first glitch.
Any other Co. recommendations much appreciated.
Thanks.

Motorcycle insurance rates are indeed a varied, tangled web.
Most of the time it comes down to where you live, where you register the bike and how the insurance company classifies the bike.
Any place within or close to a large, major US city is usually the first strike against you.
Then unfortunately most ins. companies will have the Super Tenere included in the 1 liter or above sport bike class.
Where I live within NYC, insurance premiums for autos and bikes are among the highest in the nation due to the high ratio
of actual incidents and probable future claims for accidents, uninsured drivers, injuries, property damage, thefts, acts of God
and other motor vehicle related buzzkills.
After much shopping around I went with State Farm with full coverage and a $1K ded. for $690 a year which is a mega bargain.
I have GEICO for my auto ins. and an older bike and the bike premium they quoted me for my S10 was insane.
BTW, I am 55 with an absolutely spotless license and no ins. claims yet I still have to pay for the sins of others.
Living among more than 8 million people within the five boroughs of New York City can be a bit challenging.

I’ve killed five deer with motorcycles....

Uh....can I recommend a rifle? Much less stress, and easier to clean. As far as insurance, $375/yr for liability and comp; State Farm. Progressive USED to be cheap. They were $1100/yr for the same coverage as State Farm. By the way, comp covers deer strikes; not collision. Don't let the insurance companies screw you with that.

EXACTLY!....in fact....any object in motion (that is not a vehicle piloted by another person) that collides with you is usually classified as comp...so....if a rock is moving when it HITS YOU....it's comp.....if it was stationary....YOU HIT (collided with) IT! ALWAYS provide that information during any claim (and as Sierra says....don't let them screw you!).

Between the new S10 I added last week, my old 650GS, and my wife's 650 scooter, my annual bill will be about $2200. Progressive. $500 deduct. basically clean records. I will be shopping! House and car are with USAA, I love them, will not give them up. But they do not handle bikes.

Did you get the USAA discount for Progressive?

I’m paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $125per year for the Tenere and the Majesty scooter. Liability only on the scooter and comp/liability on the Tenere. This is with Progressive and I only do my motorcycle insurance with them and have my other vehicles/house elsewhere. I also live in a small town and the bike can really only be used 6 months out of the year.

I started insuring a Klx250s and with liability it was around $75 per year the Majesty was the same amount per year, as I dropped the Klx when I added the Majesty (400cc). I was pleasantly surprised when the Tenere only made it go up a little when I added it to my policy.

Doing some online quote comparisons, Geico has the best rate so far, about half what Progressive is charging me.
Anyone have any Geico experience they'd care to pass on?

Back when Geico was buying speed guns for cops as a corporate policy, I swore to never use them. In 40 years of insured driving - I never have.

I currently have Dairyland, and they've been super - cheaper than Progressive by more than 25%, and their claim service was without pressure or issue.

Cheapest I could find where I am at was Progressive at a little over $500 a year. My truck and trailer is with State Farm, but what they wanted to charge for the bike, minimal accessory coverage, and no tow option, nope.

I get a better rate with progressive without bundling; 58, Excellent driving record; 805 credit score. I was bundled with progressive but auto owners beat they’re home and auto. All insurance jacked up at least 5% this year. Thieves!

Try Foremost Insurance out of Grand Rapids, MI. Very reasonable. I have four motorcycles through them including the S10 with full coverage, and the total is $240/year.

I try to find the cheapest....and then try even harder to not have to use it. By the way....comp is cheap....comp covers EVERYTHING except if YOU hit something. Collision takes care of that. Collision is the lion share of your premium. That's why I don't get it. Mice/rats ate the main wiring harness of my then, 6 month old Jeep; $50 deductible, and the insurance company covered the remainder of the $1800.00 bill. Check with your companies; the premium difference between a $50 comp deductible, and a $500 comp deductible is usually very small.
