Installing gear indicator, need to connect to ECM

I've got the notes on wiring for the gear indicator. 2 connections to the ECM. WHERE is the ECM on my 2012?

I've studied the shop service manual, and read about 700 posts on this forum, tried to search for ECM, etc.

Ecu is located behind the relays near the battery. You have to unclip the relays from their mount and remove the panel that holds them.

Struggle ?? I've unclipped all the relays including starting relay with red cables. And the two relays (?) in the front center with many leads.

I can see the ECM and its two connectors down behind the plastic panel. Have the two push-to-release pins out. Looks like a 5 mm screw coming out towards me, and the head of that screw is in a recess which I cannot quite see with my head jammed into the forks. I've tried a 10mm deep socket, also tried 8mm, 9mm, and 11 mm - none seems to engage. Then I brought out my Horrible Frt fiber optic inspection scope - still looks like 10mm hex in there. WHY IS THIS SUCH A STRUGGLE? - just want to grab those two wires to feed the gear indicator. BTW I intend to solder leads to the grey and blue per details in this forum. I don't use those Scothlok things.

OK, got everything back together. Gear indicator powered up and the GRN lead is connected to grey wire at black connector which goes to crankshaft sensor. And the display on the gear ind. shows an -L- when powered up, then changes to a 1.

So I just need a connection from a speed sensor. There should be a place to get this signal somewhere ahead of the ECM. Somewhere I read that I can obtain this signal between ABS and the ECM, likely a blue wire as I reference my wiring schematic. Althought there are multiple blue wires, each with a different color dot or stripe.

GOT IT! For the wheel speed sensor I went under driver's seat to find the ABS unit. Tapped into one of the blue wires, this one with orange (?) dots, and this wire provides pulses when front wheel is rotated. I suppose one of the other blue wires is for the rear wheel. Doesn't matter.

Initial ride out my neighborhood had it up to -4- and wouldn't learn higher. So I waited til I was at a faster road, pulled over and did a reset, then took off and went all the way up to 6th, and it learned each gear. Works perfectly up and down.

Years ago I worked for a UK company called Flexitallic, part of Turner and Newall. And I visited Rochdale numerous times, also plants in in Cleckheaton (near Bradford). Good memories. And made it to several car / bike gatherings. Also went to Donnington to see Saturday practice with vintage bikes. I've had numerous Brit bikes, the first was a Dunstall Norton Atlas which I bought at Pride & Clarke in June 1969 (I am old)

When I fitted mine, most of the total time was figuring out how to get to the ECU.

Sounds like you know my part of the world pretty well! Turner Brothers was still in operation when I was a kid but now it's a derelict site. I think T+N was bought out by Federal Mogul if memory serves.
Glad you liked the area. It can be picturesque in places when it's not raining. Unfortunately it rains a lot...!

Yes, I had no idea where the ECU was located, and the way it is 'layered' getting access to an individual wire is quite difficult. Fortunately someone on this forum had pointed out connecting the crankshaft sensor at its 2-pin connector just in front of the battery.

For the wheel sensor I went to the ABS unit under the seat and tapped into a blue/orange dot wire to front wheel pulses.

And Bob's your uncle@!
