Idaho BRDR ride End of August 2020

I was wondering about the conditions myself and went on Youtube and watch some rides. What I came up with is "It depends on the section" :)
YouTube videos of specific rides are a horrible indicator in my experience. I watched a few of them to get an idea of what I was up against on my ride to Torroweap overlook. Weather and road conditions can change from good to really really bad at the blink of an eye.

Ahh but you see, I've done some of the same sections that I've seen in videos, so I can compare. Always looks easier on video :)

And, if you have nothing else to compare it to, I maintain it's a good place to start.

:)

Won't happen. Alice Cooper had the classic song "school's out forever". Today the quote can be modified. "Summer's out forever" or more accurately. "Life's out forever".

I stumbled across this thread and may be in. The wife and I visited Idaho last year with toyhauler but, didn't get much riding in.

Mak10, are you one of those young "hang it out there" kind of riders? Asking because I do pretty good off-road since my background is dirt bikes and doing amateur harescrambles and enduros several years ago. However, my son had a Tenere for a short time and he road the damn thing like a motocrosser, hard to keep up with.

The main thing would be- are you comfortable with the Tenere on dirt roads? Are you able to pick up your bike? And ride it over moderate obstacles?

I would consider myself an intermediate rider. I’m not looking for expert riders, but want riding partners who are comfortable riding the Tenere off pavement.

Dirt roads are no issue. Worst thing can be the dust when riders don't leave some space between them. I've taken my bike in places where it amazed me of how capable it is, just have to respect its girth. If I do make it, my plan would be to bring the toyhauler and set up as close as practical to the start/finish. The wife may want to come and hang out in the RV.

I'll probably ask for more details later but...
Figure on 2400 mile round trip in a weeks time?
Most or all camping?
Crossing into Canada (need a passport)?

Mak, why ride only 5 hours a day? Even camping and a very relaxed pace of breakfast and breaking camp you can be KSU at 9am. Ride 7-8 hours and still plenty of time to set up camp and cook dinner before dark. That could take your rolling average speed down to 25-35 mph.

Are you going to make it?

What is the latest status of this ride? I have some vacation planned around the dates but, may need more time for travel. Went for a ride today and I got the bug!

Honestly, I kind of feel like a tag-a-long. If there’s something I could do to help, I sure would. Rides like this are definitely a bucket list thing for me. I was going to try and make the dates you planned work since I’m coming from “the State of Jefferson”. Is the plan to do the BRDR up and pavement back or BRDR both ways?

We will be meeting in tremonton Utah once the dates have been solidified. Ride to jarbidge then head out. Pavement on the way back. The end of August is the timeframe

Definite interest in this. Can't do the whole thing but would love to join you all for 3-4 days. Will commit when the dates are finalized.
sounds good to me. If all holds together, I’ve got cataract surgery scheduled for July 15h and am supposed to keep as much dust out of my eye as possible. The end of August is looking perfect.

Mak, I'm sure they will let you take the lead.

Mak10,
Hopefully your surgery was a success and you can finally see straight.

I'm resurrecting this thread to see how many people might still be interested in doing this at the end of next month. I, for one, am highly motivated but entirely unfamiliar with the territory and the terrain. I would be happy to contribute in any way I can but alas am unwilling to take the helm. My main interest in bringing this thread back to life has to do with planning. I'm 60% through my Shinkos and aside from a few other camping tidbits, would need to order some new E07's. But, alas, unless there is some enthusiasm about this, I will continue to wear out the Shinkos locally.
Any and all who have expressed interest in this ride, please chime in. Again, would love to do this but need some support from those more familiar.

Thanks,
Mark

I’m trying to work around a couple of guys schedules and dates. Late August will work for me, I’m still unsure about September.
