I crashed a rz350 never could get the steel head frame just right. Ithe plastic has got to be easier than fixing a bent up metal head stay

Does anyone know what Item 31 (double sided Tape ) in the diagram below is supposed to secure? I don't see it on my original Stay and the diagram is not clear. There is only one listed so it is either not symmetrical with the right side or perhaps it goes somewhere on the neck of the Stay.

Just a guess it would go in the top part of the stay, maybe to help in assembly or provide some spacing. I did not order any, but will look at the old part when I remove it.

Rainy day, replace a stay...

Lots of nuts bolts and screws. My biggest issue so far was getting it out. The turn signal wiring crosses in front. Finally realized I had to remove the dash infill to allow the stay to move back to clear the wires. Think I will go get some aluminum to replace the thin plastic panel I have now.

The stay was much worse than I could see, although my lower epoxy patching was holding well.

Did not find any double sided tape...

Going to move the parts to the new stay, then service the forks and steering bearings before reassembly.

Double sided tape is under the bottom nut retainer clip. Doesn't appear necessary.

Assembly aid to keep it in place.

These little rubber bumpers don't come with the new one, requiring some improve if you want them.

Thanks for the info on the double sided tape. I figured it wasn’t important and put everything back together this morningI saw the rubber pads on the old stay and ordered new ones since they were only a buck. The side pieces that have the turn signals mounted on them sit on top of the pads.
Here’s my stay. Tip over on Cinnamon Pass, Colorado.

Finished today after getting side tracked with replacing fork oil, re-lubing the steering bearings, and fabbing a new dash infill panel. It is not a hard job but it does take some time. It would be easier without an infill panel. The way every thing bolts together on this pretty amazing. The part is definitely NOT over engineered. Seeing the multiple failure modes has me thinking there are probably more of these failed than people realize. I fully expect this won't be my last one.

I thought about long term fix...may be spray it with linex spray ? Or wrap it with carbon fiber?
