Unplug the connectors from the top of the tubes…..easy. Loosen the top triple tree pinch bolts and loosen each fork cap with the proper tool or wrench of your choice. With both caps unscrewed from the forks, you should be able to collapse the forks to view the adjuster, spring, and inner rod/damper/cartridge of the fork. You will need to remove each fork leg from the bike if you are changing fluid or springs.

I just used Velcro seal savers on my S10 ES…..no need to remove anything.
Zip or Velcro.

Just unplug the electrical connector. The adjuster motor is built into and part of the cap. No need to disturb it for what you’re doing.

honestly not sure why seal savers are a thing, they do more harm than good IMO. decades of riding dirtbikes without them in nasty conditions and seals last a looong time.
I’m actually of the same opinion. If you use them make sure to clean underneath frequently. They can trap and hold dirt against the fork tubes.

I need to replace the fork seals in my '15 ST1200ES. I have watched the YouTube videos online but they are not for ES models. I have removed the rubber boot on top of the fork tubes but need to buy a tool to remove the x-large cap nuts. Is there a special tool for this or what size are these two nuts? I don't want to booger them up using the wrong too. Thanks

I just used a big adjustable spanner (Crescent wrench). Wrapped some electrical tape around the cap first to prevent marring. Also, make sure to loosen the upper triple clamp pinch bolts first or you’ll be fighting that extra resistance. The fork caps shouldn’t be very tight.

Thanks Jeff. Since I asked the question I found long thread where I gained a lot of information. I am now ready to loosen the caps and pull the forks. Hopefully the ES will not cause me too many problems.

Be sure not to mix up the caps, one side of the fork is for rebound and the other for compression. I know the valving is different left vs. right so I assumed the caps are too. I never checked the parts fiche to confirm that though.
