anybody know if there is a tutorial or step by step anywhere?
Shoot me a number. I can walk you through it. Too much to type. But other than the service manual I'm not aware of one.

The procedure is outlined in the Shop Manual, which would be foolish to not purchase if you're undertaking a job of this magnitude, IMO - there are many connections and torques, and lots of other stuff to remove The engine is surprisingly heavy and a PITA to maneuver back into the frame by yourself.

You need a special tool to remove the thru bolt on the right side - the bolt goes thru the tube in the upper right of the engine pic above. It's easily made from a bolt if you have an angle grinder (effectively a giant slotted screwdriver).

Thanks. I got the book. I don't have the tool but I guess I'll have to make one. I'm not looking to put it back in

Ok. I think im ready but I didnt need a special wrench. The long bolt was a plain bolt. My question, do you have to disconnect the drive shaft or it just pulls apart?

I just realized you're working on a Gen 1. Mine's a Gen II.

IIRC, the drive shaft just pulls apart - I think it's a splined shaft. It'll be obvious when you pull the rubber boot back.
