How to level the seat video

Happens all the time. I like it until it breaks loose, then I'm annoyed until I finally stop and 'reset' it. I took one of the large bungs and put it in place of the very frontmost, flat bung. That took up some of the gap to the tank, which did reduce the seat popping loose, but it still happens. Wish I could figure out a way to extend the tongue.
I had the same issue.
I used eletrical tape around the tongue to make it thicker and less sliding. It worked. Been riding like that since and it never popped out but I still carry a roll of tape in case I need to redo it while on a ride.

LOVE this idea. Can’t believe it didn’t occur to me. Going to tape mine right. Now.

UPDATE: Just did it now with Monkey Tape, will report back after a ride a bit with it like that. Thanks again!

any update? does it make it more difficult to get the tongue in the lower slot?

A little bit, not much. Just gotta wrap the tape tightly.
What’s funny is I forgot all about it until I saw this update because it hasn’t popped out since I taped it! Thumbs up over here.

Finally found a solution!

14ES. The rear tab just would not stay in place in the lower slot. Taped it. More tape. Nope. Got too thick for the slot width.

Re-read this thread for the fifth time. Why did it work for some and not others?

Took a couple of experiments, and a half-assed theory (didn't even need a beer to come up with it), and I think I've got it figured out.

The rear subframes are different part numbers, and I think the frame lugs that the rear of the seat bracket bolts on to isn't as close to the front as the earlier models, it's the crucial bit that's different, so the tab keeps popping out.

The fix: I think those that got it to work with tape were actually getting the tab in the high slot, and filling that gap. I took a piece of rubber, and taped it on top of the tab, the installed the seat in the "high" position, but without the middle bumpers.

Now it's solid, and doesn't pop out of the slot/tilt forward, because the bumper stops this.

Hope this helps someone.

If this works after a bunch of miles, I'm gonna drill a hole in the receiving cup and install a more permanent bumper.

I don’t know if I am doing something wrong, I own a 2016 ES and I removed the 2 rubber bungs as instructed, put the seat latch in the lower position and locked the seat down, it looked to be flatter but I had about a 1/4 inch gap between the tank and the seat, I gave the seat a nudge forward and the seat moves forward to meet the tank and the tab at the back of the seat pops out of the low slot into the high slot, but now the 2 bungs are missing the seat rocks back and forward. Tried it about 5 times but always the same result!! Any ideas?

The same thing happened with my seat.

Have you tried a thick rubber grommet at the front of the seat on the tank?
I moved one of the grommets I removed from the back to the front tab as you describe. Seems to help slightly but not enough by itself. It doesn’t quite get there.

I have a 2016 and just did this. Mine takes a bit to get in the low position for the rear but has stayed in. I do have a slight gap in front but that's understandable. Man what a difference having a flat seat! I spent a bunch of money on a Saddleman seat when I bought the Bike and it wasn't level! So it sits like new in the box. I don't know why a Manufacturer would build a Motorcycle with a seat sloping toward the tank?

I had to super glue a thin piece of rubber to the grommet

I reinstalled the grommets and am using the seat in the normal position, the leveled seat is too insecure for me with this suggestion. i’m on a 2013

When I did my seat levelling mod I heated up the tongue with a hot air gun and bent it to where it needed to be, also it can be reversed if it ever need to be out back to stock.

@Tenman has the right idea.

Been testing mine, my rubber pad mod sort of did the trick, but tongue with my on the seat was taking my weight (not good), so it was also not allowing the full pan tilt.

Removed the upper foremost flat pad, replaced it with one of the removed middle bumpers, and it works like a charm on mine.

Gotta love the simple solutions. Thanks Tenman for the guidance!

Well, my seat(s) have been an issue since day one. I hated the stock seat; cover too sticky and I think the first owner putzed with the foam. Found a used Sargent seat (both pieces) and it has a better shape but I kept sliding forward into the tank and it was a bear to get latched properly.

Found this thread by accident and dug back into it. Could not get the seat to latch following the OP without brute force. Drank a second cup of Joe and finally decided to remove the pillion seat. Operator seat "clicked" into place nice and level like Bob is my uncle. Turns out the Sargent seat padding is too fat for them both to fit properly.

Then I realized I don't need the pillion seat because nobody rides with me and lo and behold, there's an "additional carrier" under the pillion. I wouldn't have realized what it was if I hadn't carefully read the warning label that was there. ;) It should be a perfect place to tote my roadside repair stuff if I can find some bit of luggage to put there; looks like one of the Harbor Freight medium size dry boxes will fit, then I can leave the panniers at home for day trips.

Thanks for the tip!
