It's at the back where the seat tongue goes in. Look close there are two notches. Stick it in the bottom. My seat is hard to get it latched in the lower position.

Have tried this simple trick and it worked like a charm! I have a 2018 Raid Edition and no problems to get it to work, however I had to get back to the original setting, because I just felt that he seat became stiffer and my back did not enjoy this new flat sensation.

I just put a factory seat on and used the lowering spacers, it took a couple tries but I finally got the back "tongue" into the lower recess, and the front lock/ latch into the lower part of the latch that is on the seat base. It is tight with no movement and the gap is fairly tight.
I do have an Terry Adcox seat but I felt it was too high for me so I wanted to get it reworked but had no reference to how much to cut it down. I know now that cutting it down 1.5" or maybe even 2.0" since I can flat foot the low stock seat. This mod will allow me to customize the seat to what I want and how it looks. I am not a big fan of the light gray top cover so that will change to better match the Yamaha black paint.

I have a 15 and mine has the same gap as yours.

Wonder if water will get somewhere it’s not supposed to?
I was really looking forward to trying the bike with seat in this position, but although it appeared to secure I put some weight on it and the rear locating ' tongue' slipped out making the seat insecure. I ended up going back to standard set up. I may try again but can't seem to get it right

Wow, that was easy!
Thanks for posting this quick and easy Mod. Did a one hour ride on the bike yesterday and my butt, legs and back were killing me. Did the mod and then another hour ride and was still a little sore but not nearly as bad. Made it a lot more comfortable in stop and go traffic since I was not always sliding back and forth.

Tried this mod and appears to have leveled the seat and locked down good. I do have a concern that the majority of the riders weight will be plastic on plastic without rubber knobs to absorb wear and tear and weight. Have you had the plastic show sign of wear without the middle rubber knobs in place?

Sorry for a slow reply.
Been out riding around Lake Superior.
My bike has a lot! of miles on it with the seat like this with no sign of wear. I may not weigh as much as some riders do.

I did mine. I like it! Definitely more comfortable for me. I had the problem with the seat moving forward and popping out in the rear. You have to make sure the seat is pushed all the way down. The tall rectangular plastic pillar with the rubber pad on the bottom (on the seat bottom near the front right) must be seated in the matching rectangular receptacle in the seat height adjuster frame. If it's not it will slide forward and the back tab will pop out of it's bracket.

I just did mine (2016 non-es) and I am really pleased. I put a level on it before and after and found that "before" the seat was up just a bit in the rear (I think the previous owner may have changed some bumpers). "After" the rear of the seat is a bit lower than the front. The sitting on it test definitely has a different feel - seems more comfortable. Hopefully that will translate to being easier to ride longer.

Thank you for posting the video!

I've been having issues with the rear tab coming loose when I shift my weight forward on the seat a bit. Once that happens the seat's loose and I have to stop, unlock it and reinsert the rear tab under the "low" ledge. Wondering if anyone else has had this experience. TIA

I never had that issue before or after changing the bumpers, changing the bumpers did seem like it might help a little but for me it didn’t help at all, I later switched back to the stock bumpers. Eventually I switched to an aftermarket seat and that pretty much solved my seat issues. Every rider is different, what works great for one rider might be totally useless to the next rider. The Tenere is the first motorcycle seat that ever really caused me serious issues.

Anybody with a Sargent seat get this to work? I cant seem to get my Sargent to catch in the low position.
Try loosening the tank mount bolts and pushing the seat forward against the tank when pushing down to latch it. If that works, tighten the side mounts, then pop the seat to tighten the rear pivot bolt for the tank. Note that both front and rear mounts have rubber bushings, so there is some give even when they are tight.

Happens all the time. I like it until it breaks loose, then I'm annoyed until I finally stop and 'reset' it. I took one of the large bungs and put it in place of the very frontmost, flat bung. That took up some of the gap to the tank, which did reduce the seat popping loose, but it still happens. Wish I could figure out a way to extend the tongue.
