Have tried this simple trick and it worked like a charm! I have a 2018 Raid Edition and no problems to get it to work, however I had to get back to the original setting, because I just felt that he seat became stiffer and my back did not enjoy this new flat sensation.
I just put a factory seat on and used the lowering spacers, it took a couple tries but I finally got the back "tongue" into the lower recess, and the front lock/ latch into the lower part of the latch that is on the seat base. It is tight with no movement and the gap is fairly tight.
I do have an Terry Adcox seat but I felt it was too high for me so I wanted to get it reworked but had no reference to how much to cut it down. I know now that cutting it down 1.5" or maybe even 2.0" since I can flat foot the low stock seat. This mod will allow me to customize the seat to what I want and how it looks. I am not a big fan of the light gray top cover so that will change to better match the Yamaha black paint.
I was really looking forward to trying the bike with seat in this position, but although it appeared to secure I put some weight on it and the rear locating ' tongue' slipped out making the seat insecure. I ended up going back to standard set up. I may try again but can't seem to get it right
Wow, that was easy!
Thanks for posting this quick and easy Mod. Did a one hour ride on the bike yesterday and my butt, legs and back were killing me. Did the mod and then another hour ride and was still a little sore but not nearly as bad. Made it a lot more comfortable in stop and go traffic since I was not always sliding back and forth.
Tried this mod and appears to have leveled the seat and locked down good. I do have a concern that the majority of the riders weight will be plastic on plastic without rubber knobs to absorb wear and tear and weight. Have you had the plastic show sign of wear without the middle rubber knobs in place?
