How to find a bike?

Greetings, all--

I'm on the hunt for a 2015 Candy Red ES-- and I'm more or less striking out.

I've tried the Yamaha Dealer Search for a 2015-- Not so good. The dealers it comes up with that say they have the bike don't have the bike.

I've tried a national Craigslist search via SearchTempest. No joy.

I've tried eBay.

I've tried CycleTrader.

I've tried AutoTrader.

So far, the only local dealer I've found in the Denver area has one that they're listing for $14.7 + whatever fees they feel like taking on. They are absolutely unwilling to negotiate. At all.

I've seen a few.... a very few online for $13.2, but they're for the most part in IL or east. I'm in CO, so that's a bit of a stretch to get to and I'd have trouble getting enough days off in a row. There are a few CA bikes that are cheaper, but I'd like to avoid them simply due to the differing throttle bodies and evaporative canister and it's associated hardware.

I did talk to another dealer here who sold their last ES last month for $12.9-- that's about right, I'd think.

Therefore, three questions:

1. Am I missing any obvious places to look?

2. Pricing? What's fair on a new-old-stock bike? No matter what, it's a one and a half going on two year old bike the instant you drive it off the lot.

3. Does anyone have a way to do a "Global" dealer search to see where these bikes really are?

Thanks to all. I realize that this really isn't the greatest time of year to buy a bike, but I'm surprised it's this hard.

Kind of boggled, actually.

I guess, barring any great suggestions, I just sit and wait for someone to sell theirs.

Sigh.

Cheers--

R.

PS: Did I mention "thank you"?

How far are you willing to travel for one? I was recently looking at some listings in the PNW area and a few were popping up.

Oh yes, have you checked any of the dealers beyond the Denver metro area?

Funnily enough, my parents live in Gig Harbor (over the Narrows bridge from Tacoma), so the PNW is easy. In fact, I road-tripped out to Portland in 2012 to pick up my V-Rod (2012, 1200 miles). I could easily fly in to Seattle or Portland, pick up the bike, and stash it at my parents house until I got a chance to get it back to Denver.

The problem is finding the bike.

That's part of the problem: There are a zillion motorsports dealers with say.... 600 miles of Denver. I don't know where to start. Unless I could get a Dealer Search that had accurate results. I've tried several in the local area and even though the Yamaha site says that they have the bike, when you talk to them, they don't.

Sigh.

I *did* find a bike...... but the gentleman wants $15k. That's more than I can buy a new one for.

Not quite understanding that one.

When I was searching for my new 2013 last fall, they were one of the lowest cost dealers I searched out. I ended up buying at a different dealer spending about $200 more but convenient. I know not close to you either but might be worth a look. If I would have been coming out to Grand County elk hunting this fall like I usually do, I would have hauled it for some gas money but no elk hunting this year.

Last year these guys were the lowest price I could find. I don't see the great prices this year on their site, but might be worth a call.

Good luck,

Dave

Sehorn Yamaha in Shawnee OK had a red 2015 ES when I was last there; website says they still have one. I bought my red 2015 there last summer, they have good prices and their out the door prices have no hidden charges.

If you have a 2-day weekend, I'd think a fly-and-ride would be doable within at least a 1k mile radius, if not a little more, ya? Especially if you can take one day off to supplement. If I were looking, I'd look to the dealers mentioned above (Sehorns, etc) and then use Cycle Trader. The issue with that is that a $13k bike w/ fly-and-ride might as well be a $14k bike or even a little more due to travel costs.

Regarding the discounting, I think it's going to be a tall order to get an ES at a steep discount, just because there seem to be fewer of them. I do understand your desire for that specific bike, as that is a great color Yamaha has. It's the same as the 04 R1 was available in, making it one of the top 5 most beautiful sport bikes ever IMO. Good luck.

Are you stuck on red, or on a Gen II ES? Color is just paint. The '14s are the same bike, just different colors.

Call the dealer you found with the price you found acceptable and ask them to see if they can locate one that they can sell you at the price you want. The dealers can search the system for specific year/model bikes easily.

That's right. I wanted an ES when they came out in 14, but didn't like the matte grey. I had hoped that we would get the white with black decals that was available in the rest of the world. For $500 I had the body work painted in the 13 pearl white before the bike was ever started.

I was going through the same thing. looking at all the dealerships starting in the East and working West. I came across a great deal through Pro-Caliber in Oregon. To make the deal even better, Haulbikes was having a special on shipping. Great price, great people to deal with, and I would by from them in a second. Good luck whatever you decide.

I'm *reasonably* stuck on Red-- but *definitely* stuck on the Gen II.

My problem is I have a bad case of the "want's". The smart move is to wait until Jan-Feb of next year and wheel and deal-- but if I could find the bike I wanted......

Anyhow, going to the dealer today to see what they can do. And I'll make some calls today to the suggested dealers above (Heinen's, Big St. Charles, Pro-Caliber and Sehorn).

Thanks to all!

One thing about being older, I'm over the 'want it, got to have it' for just about anything.

Saved me a lot of money over the years. Especially electronic crap that's obsolete very shortly after purchase.

Waited, got a new bike, and even after all the mod's I wanted done, still under $10.5K. ::018::

Sometimes the thing to do is to find the best price on the Internet, factor in your travel expenses and then go to your local dealer and see just how close they can come. Tell them upfront where and at what price and what it will cost you to go get it. I have used this system a couple times with different dealers and came within a couple hundred dollars.

I just bought a 2015 ES from someone on the forum about a month ago. There were two available on the forum for $12k at that time. The lowest I found on a new one was $13 or so locally (Chicago area). Shipping cost me $450 from NY. In the end that was cheaper than a fly and ride (about 900 miles). I looked for a month or two before I found the right deal. Like you I decide I wanted a gen 2 ES even though there are really good deals to be had on used gen 1 machines. I guess my advice is be patient and keep on eye on this forum for people selling as well as the usual sources (Craigslist and Cycletrader).
