How do you rescue a bike in the woods?

I took a detour onto a narrow dirt path that became even narrower with a sheer drop off a cliff to a beach down below. I carefully backed down praying the ABS wouldn’t kick in (would it in reverse?)

It got me thinking does anyone pack a come along when hitting the trails? How would you get a bike out of an area you can’t ride right out of?

I've never done it in the woods. . . . but, more than a few times I've ended up where I've had to do the same. . . . walk it out backwards.

well , to me as things get kinda tight I think I would stop and check things on foot before continuing into a major problem . hopefully you got your bike out of the mess you described .

I have one of these recovery kits. I have not had to use it on a motorcycle yet. I have used it to get a rolled over ATV (not mine) back on it's wheels.

I have my own recovery system with a small knot book. It includes lots of climbing carabiners, a pulley, and good climbing rope. I also carry a small lifting winch as well. The red rope is for making prussic self arresting knots. Always mounted on the back my pannier rack is some serious climbing rope held on with 2 carabiners ready to go. FWIW, all my carabiners have the ability to be used as a pulley system if I need more leverage. IMHO, recovery gear is a must if you are riding solo.

Here are a few pics... notice the fall line of the trees and beach waaay down below. I’m just too used to a mountain bike. Learned my lesson. Not an easy vehicle to duck walk backwards, kept wanting to roll off trail.
