Well not really, it's not a problem when alot of people have it right? I love riding :)

After 20+ years of riding, looks like it's time for a adventure touring bike. My back and knees dont quite agree with sportier bikes out there anymore and I love racking in the kms. I ride 99% roads with 1km everytime I leave my place(gravel roads).

The S10 was not on the radar.. that thing seems to fly pretty darn low in magazines and such, other than ADVrider.

After test driving a 1200GS Adventure last week and fainting from the sticker shock(30k Can for what I want...) I stumbled on a S10 in a Yamaha dealer and looking forward to test driving one shortly. My mind is pretty much made up, I really hope it clicks when I ride it.

So i'm here to see what's the deal, review, issues, likes and what not. Seems like a pretty reliable bike compared to most out there once past the initial 1000kms check-up, spoke tightening and lil things like that. Does not seem to have any major issues really worth talking about to steer me away from it.

Cheers! :)

::004:: From Switzerland. The bike is great to ride, but depending on what version you get, the Gen 1 will sound like a steel tool box being thrown down a metal stairway, the Gen 2 (2014+) is quieter and smoother, having had both, the Gen 2 is the one to go for. Had my share of Gs's too, last one I actually enjoyed riding was a 1100GS, even had the last ADV GS before LC. Price puts it into another area that I prefer not to reside in.

Holy crap! :)) I thought the Gen II sounded pretty "agricultural". I don't mind it but, THAT is funny! ::001:: Almost forgot....Talltourer....my preference is a Gen II ES; my favorite bike EVER.

its a great no matter the gen.... we look long and hard to find something really bad to say about it . mine is 5 years old never seen the inside of a shop except the 500 mile check , and it lives outside in the weather with tha wild things , ive washed it once or twice , mostly if I ride in the rain ( let mother nature wash it ) and that is that . now I am very serious when it comes to maintenance , change oil early and often especially in the hot months . cam chain tensioner is about the biggest thing and that's a gen 1 issue ..... its pretty much just gas and go. enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome.

Ya looking at a Gen2, most likely new, i'll see if I trade in my current bike(FJ-09) or sell it privately if I find a good deal on a leftover 2017 somewhere once i've test ridden one. A dealer offered a test ride once we have decent weather here, currently 40C+ with humidity here, as much as I love to ride, it's not ideal to try a new bike and get a first good impression to see if i'll like it or not when sweating bullets in your helmet. It's not like i'm bikeless for now anyway also!

Heavily leaning toward the ES suspension also but would not look away at a good deal on the regular one, especially in Desert Sandstone. I find it fits the bike so well aesthetically.

I have the ES...best bike I have ever owned. Had many bikes over the years and tried all the other latest offerings...KTM, Ducati Enduro, GS, Triumph, Guzzi...before chancing on the ST...the ST just does everything so well.

Hi Talltourer and welcome ::004::

I'm a newbie here, only picked my Super Ten up on 1st. August so just putting some miles on it and getting to know each other after 5 years on a brilliant Kawasaki Versys 1000. It was a big wrench to part with the Versys but I think Super Ten and I are going to enjoy each other's company ::008::

Interesting, mind sharing your thoughts on V1k vs S10? I was looking alot at the Versys 1000 also at some point, a newer one. But being unable to test ride one at all around here makes me nervous. My wife has a 2017 Versys 650 that she loves(based on ninja/ER650). I know they redesigned the bodywork in 2015, unsure what they did to the engine. I do know they are very rare in the used market around here, like the Tenere. the only ones I see have 30k+ miles on them typically. Being sold privately since dealers dont want them most likely.

It’s difficult to be objective regarding Versys 1000 vs SUper Ten as I haven’t put enough miles on the Super Ten. However, I can say that I lusted after a Super Ten since 2010 but I couldn’t justify the cost. I looked at the Versys 1000and I was smitten immediately primarily by the absolute monster of a motor that Kawasaki have put into the bike.

I had mine for 5 fantastic years and it took me around Europe twice a year every year. I cruised on Autobahns at what ever speed I wanted and would cruise gently across country in sixth gear with a full load of luggage without complaint.

Negatives for me were the seat, comfy but too steeply angled to the front. I used to put an Airhawk covered by an Alaskan Butt Pad sheepskin on long hauls. It always returned an average of 51-52mpg, (that’s U.K. gallons), and all I did was service it and put fuel in and replace the tyres. It was faultlessly reliable with no manufacturer recalls at all and I doubt that I would have changed it but for the itch that has to be scratched!

Initial impressions of the Super Ten are good, it seems to be comfortable and roomy for me and the motor is a peach. Of course I don’t expect a twin to be as smooth or as flexible as an in-line 4, but the Super Ten is pretty sweet I have to say! I am expecting a similar kind of reliability and enjoyment that I had from the Versys and I don’t think I will be disappointed, if I am, then I won’t hesitate to get myself anotherVersys.

Welcome to the forum mate,

I have recently returned to a ES Super Tenere after a short (8 months 16,000 km's) detour on a Triumph Explorer XCA. I thought I needed more power, but was delusional, as I missed the low center of gravity, the freight train stability, and that lovely 270 degree lilt of that parallel twin.

Like others, I have also owned a spate of GSA BMW's, but reliability problems and service costs have forever ruled out another BMW in my shed ever.

Good luck with your decision, and trust me that if you buy one, it will be your forever bike.

Regards Lofty
