Limey, I'm impressed you've managed to retain your Geordie accent although I've managed to retain my Northern accent despite living down south with all the soft southern shandy drinkers for too many years. I bet you had a great time with your accent growing up in the US because whenever I've visited the US I've never had a problem meeting lovely people who "Loved my accent". I hope to try and get over to the US more often in the future to see lots more of it and possibly meet some of the like minded people on here.
Actually I am in Canada bigtim just east of Toronto. I think I retained my accent because I worked for Parsons Turbine Generators division and they where bought out by Siemens. Parsons was located in Newcastle. There was about 7,000 people working there when we emigrated in 1972 and now most of the shops have been pulled down and all the ship yards are gone too.

I know Bowmanville I've driven past it on the 401. I know Ontario pretty well as I worked for Nortel for 15 years and used to spend a lot of time in Ottawa but used to travel to various sites near to Toronto like Mississauga and Belleville after Nortel I worked for Raytheon for 5 years and used to visit Kitchener/Waterloo quite a lot. Lovely part of the world and I've always wanted to live in Canada since I was a little chap, I still would given the chance. My problem is convincing the wife as she's unsure about the cold winters especially where you are due to the great lakes weather effect. I experienced lake effect snow while visitng a relative who lives at St Catharines near Niagara falls and struggeld to get back to my hotel in Kitchener. I used to drive from Kitchener across to London and then upto Sarnia to cross in to the US and then take the I69 around Detroit and follow it down to Fort Wayne to visit a very good friend to partake in a few brews, he's visited the UK so has developed a taste for UK beers and never says no to a wandering brit bearing bottles of english beer.

My favourite is Newcastle Brown Ale and I've educated my american friend, we even found it for sale in one of his local bars although they apologised because they only had the big bottles (1 pint) instead of the more usual (1/2 pint). I'm quite partial to Labatts blue and Honey Brown of your local beers. If ever I'm over again I'll make a point of arranging a meet up.
