I have some kids toys " new in the box " , some kids can afford bigger boxes I guess.
my boss has a mustang driven by Nicolas cage in some movie (pretty rare car ) he doesn't drive it , its in the collection.
I'm with you Sierra1, if I bought it I would use it.

Wait, wait, wait... your boss has the actual '67 GT500 Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds? That's pretty sweet!
Whether it is the actual movie car or a replica, those things are few and far between, and each cost enough money to justify keeping as a "show car only." I'd probably only take it to car shows if I owned it.

$48K isn't THAT much considering that the bike was pretty good in its day AND that a new Honda pilot SUV costs that much.

Maybe I am becoming old, but what was unattainable in my youth (30-40 years ago) isn't too much of a stretch for me now. (I waited 42 years to have a campy-equipped bicycle.) My issue is that generally, anything i buy today leaves me disappointed, and i really don't have a desire to buy new stuff. I just don't care. Weird. Contentment?

I am happy that people buy nice things (Porches, Jaguars, Defenders, Rolex, Phillipe Patek, etc.), but I have no interest in owning any of that. Street bike, dirt bike, and a few bicycles, and I am good to go.

Congrats to the winner. I hope he/she receives the enjoyment for which they were hoping.

I got the impression that it was going to stay in the crate. Ogled, but never ridden or even assembled. I guess somebody would be happy with that.

If I had the means, I would put a nice wooden countertop on it, place it in my cool man cave, pour myself a good whiskey, plop in my ratty old leather couch, and call it a day.

Cheers!

That's been one of my dream cars for decades. There were only 11 made for the movie, but only 3 of them actually ran. I remember one of them going at auction for a million bucks. Recreations go for north of $250k, but few of them get the license to call them "Elanor."

Maybe someday I will build a modern Eleanor based on a 2014 GT. I've seen them done and while they aren't a '67, they look pretty great in their own right.
We can always dream, right?

so old cars are cool . as men we tend to like the cars of our younger days .... a barracuda would float my boat .... but a modern v8 mustang will out run and turn and stop and has airbags etc and get 25mpg Vs Eleanor . this car was a runner , donuts in the parking lot showed us that . but if I was offered the keys to a new GT mustang or Eleanor , give me the keys to the GT. Eleanor would be a nightmare to maintain and to insure and I want a car that will start and be reliable . when Eleanor was new it was that compared to a modern car . but we have our dreams , I get it . maybe if I was in my 30s or 40s I would feel different . but I'm antique enough in my life don't need something competing with me.
old man in an old car ,what's cooler is an old man in a new car.

I lost my huge desire for a sports car or a hot rod years ago. The number one reason is traffic, and the other is road condition. I don't need/want 400hp to drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic avoiding potholes. Which is why I have a Jeep and a Tenere.

A Crated 1995 BMW R 100 GS Sold At Auction For $47,250 USD (msn.com)

Apparently, that little PD on the crate makes this little booger re-e-a-al special. I know that's there's a few of y'all on here getting a stiffy over this bike.

Bobs BMW has a collection of antique Beemers with one of the original R80 bikes still in the crate. Most of these are now in another building but the crate is still up there.

As well as one of the new electric appliances. The picture looks better than it is in real life.
