Do you have an "end on" photo of those units?
the end is totally flat and smooth. But the internal 'side' might have that cup to hold the internal spring. I had NO IDEA that end cap could possibly come off... ( I still don't know if that's even possible ) but the size / shape / and you having an aftermarket MCCT installed suggest that this "might" be the culprit.

No matter the case, you might want to drop the pan soon and see if the other half it sitting down there. Easy job with a new gasket.

The Gen I breather blows a bit more oil into the air box at rpms over 7-8k. No big deal, but if you run sustained high rpms you notice the loss and have to add a bit. FYI- The Yamaha uses a low oil LEVEL light, not a low oil pressure light.

I'm curious as heck how this turned out. And, did he drive Portland, San Diego, Phoenix.......
Hi, the trip down south turned in to a van/mountain bike adventure, the dog was stoked about the change of plans. I made it back to Oregon a couple of weeks ago, the weather has been so perfect so I've been tempting fate, and riding the snot out of the Tenere, but staying local. The bike is running beautifully.
I'll be pulling the bottom of the oil pan to inspect further when I do the oil in the next week or so. Does anyone have any insight as to how much attention a manual timing chan tensioner requires? Does not seem to me like it would be a "set it and forget it" type of arrangement.

Enjoy those traffic free roads boys!

That is interesting. No leaks, smoke, or odd noises? Burn it at the altar of Murphy, Thank St. Christopher and keep riding. In all seriousness, that is disconcerting. If it were my bike, I would drop the oil pan and inspect accordingly.
