Haven't been here much lately. Almost posted this in new member intros.

I say homeless because for the first time, I have no deed, no mortgage, no lease, no rental agreement, and no friends saying we can stay with them. We do have a roof over our heads in the form of the the best long term hotel that $78 a day can provide in the Washington, DC region.

Considering our new "status" when it came time to relax with a beer light night, the choice was obvious.

Last time I had a screw top beer it was a metal cap. I guess this is progress.

It's not always been this way. Just a few weeks ago one of my garages looked like this.

Today I do not own a tractor, an ATV, a UTV, or any device that can dig a hole, pick up a leaf, cut a piece of wood, or even cut blade of grass. Don't own the garage either.

I do still own the three bikes, but the garage is a temporary storage until that looks more tidy.

We'll take this homeless thing one step further when we launch for the ride out to SD to see some of you guys. At that point we won't even have a hotel reservation. So if I get pulled over and the officer looks at my license and asks, "is this your address?" Nope. "Where do you live?" I have no idea how I'd answer that question without sounding like a smart-ass. Just one more challenge of being homeless.

Watching closely. Sometimes it feels like the “stuff” owns me. Or all the license fees and taxes- the gvmt owns me.

looking forward to seeing you guys at the rally.

Well, it IS a step, so congratulations? I think?

My daughter just got a contract - finally - on her place in Balmo and needs to be out fast so may end up like you before finding a new place. She's looking into the month-long AirBnB rentals.

I thought everybody up there, was moving down here. As many houses that are being built, there's room.

Congrats to her. I understand, we were out in 3 weeks. We looked at, and even booked a long term AirBnB. That was the first contract which fell through. Kinda unpleasant getting your money back from a long term AirBnB. In the end we opted for a place close to work. It's fine, not great, not awful.

It's an odd time that feels like living in limbo. Looking forward to getting on the bike at the end of the week and put a little familiar normalcy in my life for a bit.

When we get back, we do the walk-through on the new house a few days later, and go to closing a week after that.

I always think of what you told me about the 1 year moving rule. Only 43 more weeks to go.

I'd love to head south. DM has made it clear she's not willing to move away from Dirt_Child (DC). Not sure what we did wrong as parents, but DC loves Northern Virginia. I don't...downright completely disgusted with the place myself...but I digress. While I like to blame DM, the truth is, I'd have a very hard time intentionally moving away from DC. It's complicated.

I get it. It feels pretty darn good to be rid of all that stuff. We got rid of so much, it's almost mind blowing. I'm a little concerned that I may regret getting rid of the lift table. It's my attempt to stop working on bikes and letting someone else do it. Not sure I'll be able to follow through with that one. Also I think I'll miss my tractor most of all. I loved that thing, but where I'm going, it would have no purpose.

Agreed, looking forward to catching up. Maybe another dinner like we had with heberhog and bigbob back in Colorado. :)

Wouldn't wish being homeless on anyone. Been there, done that. Only for two nights but it was scary when you have nothing - well, I say nothing, my girlfriend and I had a loaf of bread with the last of our money, a third of which I gave to a tramp that was asking for change. The same tramp died two years later and they found 500 pounds in his boot the bourgeoise beggar! Still, I obesity was avoided...

Glad you have something in the wings. Hope the wings unfurl smoothly.

We were in the same boat until yesterday, slept on a mattress on the floor in the new place down south, finally made it

sold the Colorado house a couple of times, last one stuck….the market is so hot everyone puts offers just to hold options, then pull out and keep their earnest money and leave you high and dry and back on the market, sucks

next week, new Super Tenere

If everything goes to plan my GF and I will be homeless in less than 2 years time.

We have been selling out of our stuff for half a year already. It's liberating to only own the essentials.
Next year our house will be put up for sale.
When the house is gone we'll sell/give away/trash the rest of our belongings. Fall next year the bikes will go.

Spring 2023 we quit our jobs, sell the cars and take off on a journey with no end date.
First stop: North America.

What's in the box. Where are you ending up?
Going to try the impossible...we're attempting to buy time.

Doing the opposite of what people expect of me. Most find out what we're doing and say something like, "who are you" or "didn't see that one coming."

After 20+ years of no home owners associations, we are intentionally moving the small house in a neighborhood...with a HOA. The association takes care of the yard, plants the stuff around the house and takes care of that too. All I have to do is pay and have time to ride my motorcycles. At this point, seems like a good tradeoff.

We had a place like that in Denver for a while, it was as good as it sounds…..no maintenance, no mowing, no shoveling snow, nothing…the HOA did all exterior maintenance

The thing I lack most seems to be time. Not working on the property is a good place to start claiming it back.
