Good day everybody! After many years away from riding (grew up riding Suzuki dirt bikes and dad's '82 Silverwing) I new something wasn't complete in my life. I took the BRC planning to get a shadow or other cheaper road bike until I started reading about the "new to me" adventure bike genre. A light bulb went on and I knew this was something I needed to investigate. After lots of research on the numerous options I knew I wanted the S10/T12 (still learning the lingo).

My budget was limited but I didn't want to wait before the snow hit KC so I pulled the trigger on a 2012 with 33k miles a couple months ago from a local cycle shop. Why was it thousands less than anything I could find you ask? Well it had a storied past, and they didn't know the full story (but had clear title, originally from SD). And they couldn't get the check engine light to turn off though they said they fixed the problem reported in the code and did a thorough system check including valves (they aren't a Yamaha dealer). Well I can't get it to stay off either but I'll save that for a separate post (I have researched on here already and tried the great suggestions I have found so far).

I have ridden it about 5 times, maybe 100 miles total, and it sounds and runs great to me. Maybe I was a fool for jumping into it but so far I don't regret it a bit. I just wish there was some more adventurous terrain in the KC area and wish I had found this bike when I was living in Phoenix. Glad to have found the bike and this group. Happy and safe adventure riding to you all!

Welcome from a "few" hours south on I-35 in Texas. "I" refer to her as a Tenere. I just can't bring myself to call her an S10 (hated those trucks). T-12 is valid since there is a T-7. Nobody's going to be critical of what you call her. There's even a thread here somewhere, wanting to know what you named her.

With the experience, and expertise on this site, getting your check engine light taken care of shouldn't be too hard.

Welcome aboard, you don’t have to explain or apologize your purchase. As long as you are happy with the bike! It is an awesome machine, built with great quality. I bet we’ll figure the engine light out (did you try a piece of black tape already?)

Enjoy the bike!

I haven't tried the black tape fix yet but I had an uncle that drove his Honda that way for years. :)

Welcome aboard from 8 hours north in Minnesota Doodad! I expect with some digging you will find the answer to your check engine light and lots of other things you will want to know about your new ride *S*

When I came back to riding after 25 years I also took the BRC......one of the smarter things I have done and I expect you will/have found the same. I now teach it. About 15% of my students are like us, returning riders.

Stay Safe

Yeah yeah I get, I’ll change my name…
I don't imagine that y'all had the "pleasure" of the Chev/GMC S-10 truck. So "S10" doesn't have the same impact that it does over here. On the other hand, I'm sure there's probably plenty of people over here that love/loved their little trucks. I've just never met any of them. :D

Let me Google that fine piece of engineering. Not a clue what it is.

Ah thát S10, I know the first generation. But not a clue how they are technically. Not to many pick-ups here all together. The fuel guzzling US engines were never real popular here due to the fuel prices.
