Anyone install non-OEM heated gri[s?

I'd like to put some on the bike (2012 ST), but don't know I want to pay the $350 - $400 for the OEM branded ones.

Yep. There are numerous options out there including the OEM. The factory plug and play were intriguing to me, but not at that price point. Also I heard some guys were having problems with the wire breaking on the OEM throttle side grip due to repeated bending.

I went with the oxford grips. Could not be happier. Best $90 I have spent so far. Very easy to install. Also All you need to do is run them to your battery and you don't have to wire a separate ignition relay switch. The unit will stay on while it feels the vibrations from the engine. When you shut off the engine it will automatically shut off after 3 minutes or so. Works very well. ::001::

The OEM heated grips on my 2013 S10 (16,500 miles) have stopped working, I'm guessing its the usual problem of broken wire on right hand grip as there are no obvious loose wires and the fuse is OK. I'll probably replace the OEM heated grips with Oxford Premium Adventure grips as they are a much better price and have a reputation for being very effective and long lasting. My question is that the OEM heated grips come with a handlebar housing for the right hand side that has channels for the throttle cables and the heated heated grip wire. When I remove the OEM grip wire the housing will have a redundant hole in it. Just wondered if others that have made this change have kept the housing and blocked the hole or have purchased new housing for the throttle cables without the hole as this would certainly look better.

I bit the bullet and put on the oem on my 13. They have been bulletproof for 4 years and 30000 miles

Another satisfied Oxford Adventure Heated Grips user. It’s worth saying that these grips can be connected directly to the battery as Oxford have incorporated a “smart” controller which detects when the engine is off and automatically turns the grips off to conserve battery life.

Are factory heated grips part of the ES package? Separate option?
Heated grips is standard equipment on the 2018 ES, that’s one of the reasons why I bought the ES instead of the non ES where you have to pay extra to get heated grips.
After adding heated grips to a motorcycle about 20 years ago I haven’t owned a motorcycle without heated grips since.

I've finally got around to replacing my failed OEM heated handlebar grips with Oxford Premium Adventure heated grips. When I took the OEM grips off it was clear that the right hand grip had failed at the point where the wire enters the grip inside the grip housing. This seems to be the place where most failures occur and as reported elsewhere this is definitely a design weakness. Removing the OEM wiring, grips etc was straightforward, except that I have had to re-use the OEM throttle cable/heated grip wire housing which is now a bit unsightly with its redundant hole for the heated grip wire. I've ordered replacement housing, but there is no stock available (UK) until 18 December at the earliest.
Fitting the Oxford grips was very simple with no problems except the wiring/cables are too long for the Tenere and need a lot of bunching and tucking to hide them away. I would have shortened them but I'm sure this would have invalidated the one year guarantee. I think the Oxford Grips are a couple of millimeters shorter than the OEM grips so there is a slight gap between the grips and bar ends/switch gear. Otherwise all seems to be working well

Hello guys. I have the OEM heated grips for my 2012 S10 . On my last trip I noticed that the right grip didnt work at all, while the left one got extremely hot, to the point that even with leather gloves, it was impossible to keep my hand there for more than 3 seconds. It had never got that hot. Any ideas? I am lost...

I found it impossible to repair the broken wire in a way that it didn't break again, and gave up on the OEM grips. Hopefully you still have the original throttle cable housing so you can put it back to normal before getting Oxfords?

There is a set out there somewhere that has the controller built in the grip. Less hassle, neater install.
I use the Koso Apollo grips on another bike. It's pricey and not extremely hot, but it's beautiful and reliable. The controller is not built into the grip, just the thumb switch that goes through 5 settings. But the controller is just a small black box that gets zip tied out of view.
