Heated Grip Menu Disappeared????

I have a 2015 Tenere ES.
Last week I used my heated grips using the menu switch and they worked fine.
Yesterday I went to use them again and the heated grip option completely disappeared from the menu!
It occurred to me that a fuse simply may have blown but looking through my owners manual it isn't clear which fuse controls the heated grips........ or maybe thats not it at all?
Anyone experience this? -JEP-

Happened to mine when the right grip failed (under warranty) the menu disappeared, neither grip worked until the faulty one was replaced.

Original heatet grip is "Plug and Play".
Meaning that when the wiring can detect heatet grip, the software will automatic show the menu.
And when not present (or broken), menu disapers.

Thanks guys I suspected something along those lines. I checked the referenced fuses in the service manual and they were all good.
Sounds like a trip to the dealership! -JEP-

No, in your part of the world, "ES" means the electric adjustable suspension.
There is no way, in the model name, to tell if it is a gen 1 or 2.

Personally I think it can be read from the VIN number.

And no, heatet grip is not standard on gen 2.
Both gen 1 and 2 is avalible as "ES" and non "ES" model, and the non ES have not heatet grip (at least in Europe, not sure about USA)
Slight correction, there was no ES for the Gen 1 bikes, that was introduced in Gen 2, which is the 2014 model year and newer. The ES version includes the heated grips as standard in the US as well, and the standard model does not.

Does anyone have a picture of the factory heated grips prior to install? I'm working on putting aftermarket grips on, but integrating them into the factory harness. I'd like a pic of the plug end of the factory setup if anyone has one.

Might want to do a search here. The aftermarket grips will not play nice with the factory setup. Different resistances.

Unless I am not understanding you, several people on this forum have tried unsuccessfully to do that. Do you just want to tap into the power supply plug on the right side?

My oem heated grips failed after about 3 years... going with the oxford heaterz adventure ones next... the oem ones never really felt as good as some aftermarket ones I'd tried in the past.

I know a guy that got aftermarket heaters to work with the factory menu and controls. It was a matter of applying the correct amount of resistance to the factory plugs. I'll have to try and find some of the attempts on here to see what others have tried. If I can get them to be a plug-n-play affair, cool. If not, I'll build a dash and have a separate controller for them. In the end, all I want is warm hands. :D

The Grips arrived today!
After searching a little bit, the cheapest price I found them was from Lone-Star Yamaha in Texas. $98 for the throttle-side, $88 for the clutch side.

Pic of the connectors.

They are truly just simply "Plug and Play"

Turn on the Bike, and you can immediately select them by pressing the "Menu" button on the left switch-gear.
IMG_2995.JPG
There are 4 settings: one-wave, two-waves, three-waves, and OFF.

I started the Bike, and after a few minutes on HIGH, these things get HOT!

Mounted the clutch-side one first. My old one slipped off fairly easy.
I sprayed a little 3M adhesive on the tube, and the new one slid on with no trouble. Within about 15 minutes, I could no longer move it.

Ran the wiring through the channel under the switch assembly, and followed the factory harness around the steering-stem, into the rear of the electrical panel, to where it plugs in. Was really simple, and just used a few zip-ties along the way.

I haven't attempted the throttle-side yet, but will install that in a couple days.........................

I played with the deeper menu a bit to adjust the settings for each level.

I really want to thank those that researched adding grips to these Bikes, it made ordering the parts and the install super easy!
Beers are on me if we ever meet!

Also, I did take my multimeter to the grips unplugged.
These factory Yamaha grips measure 1.5 ohms.
My Oxford Adventure grips on my FJ1200 measure 7 ohms.

As others have said, I don't think anyone else's grips would work with the factory menus............

I just ordered a replacement for my failed factory grip. It will be nice to have working heated grips again.

I just installed the throttle side heated grip today and that was the one that was bad. You do lose the menu when one goes bad. It is nice to have them back working from the factory menu.

As posted before, the right grip wire needs a strain relief to prevent fatigue failure. Where it goes into the grip, fill the hole with black RTV.
