If anyone has installed a permanent coax outlet on their Tenere, I would like to hear about it. A picture would be even better.

Thanks

I have one mounted in an existing hole in the left side of the frame on my 14 ES. Had one there on my 12 also. I use it for my heated jacket liner and also to power my Slime air pump or for the Battery Tender.

Perfect! I should have thought of that. Thanks!
No problem. Not shown in the pic is a piece of black sticky back Velcro on the black panel, where I Velcro my Gerbing controller when using my heated liner.

Here is what I did. Fabricated plate out of aluminum. Discarded the 3 amp factory lighter plug. The right plug is hot for battery tender and Best Rest air pump. The left plug is wired through my hearttroller and hot only when the hearttroller is on and bike is running. Both plugs run through 20 amp fuses. Ram mount in the middle is bolted to plate and supports radar detector with a radar screamer for radar alerts. Detector box protects everything and is very solidly mounted.

Mine is basically a mirror image of OldRider's. I chose the left panel, same location, simply because if I dis-mount to the left with it plugged in, it will safely pull out w/o drama. I did have to lengthen my old, (2003), Gerbing jacket liner's power cord.

I like a couple of these grndlb is good but fredz43's is what most interests me.
Fred I tried that with the outlet from powerlet however it's not insulated and blew fuses. How did you insulate it?

I'm sure Fred will chime in shortly, but when a friend had that issue, we simply put a nylon washer between the frame and the plug. His Heat-Troller would run on full blast otherwise, since it works on pulsing the ground leg, not the hot leg, and with it grounded, there was no ability to pulse!

Hi Brick,

My outlet is from Gerbing and it is insulated. It is the item shown in the lower right in this pic of the panel mount kit.
http://gerbing.com/collection/accessory-panel-mount-kit.html

That piece is available separately and I believe it is called Accessory panel mount. It should be the part number shown here, but the pic of that item is incorrect on their web site. http://gerbing.com/collection/accessory-panel-mount.html

Edit, I found the correct item on Revzilla. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/gerbings-panel-mounted-port

Here is my Gerbing controller velcro'ed in place ready to plug in to my Tourmaster Synergy 2.0 heated jacket liner. I'll be using it in the morning as it is supposed to go below freezing tonight. C'mon spring! :)

I'm confused by this thread. What difference does it make if the exterior, (ground side) of the panel jack is not insulated ?
It does directly to the negative on the battery, doesnt it ? My coax jack does. If the polarity was reversed, it would be a direct short and blow the fuse as soon as power was applied.
The only Heat troller I have seen that would not cycle was due to reverse polarity.

I didn't do a panel outlet, I have a coax pigtail that I keep under the seat and pull up between the tank and the seat when needed. I went with the wireless Warm N Safe controller, so I could have a single wire hookup to me while still having dual zone control. Not a great picture, but I used a RAM mount with hole to go under the mirror, and added a RAM ball to the controller.

Heat Trollers are pulsing the ground side, if the plug outlet is grounded to the frame, it's like having a ground all the time, so no way to pulse it, so it mimics full on and you can't regulate the heat. It wouldn't matter if you were just using a hi/low switch. Some of this may depend on if the controller is plugged into the outlet, or if the controller is between the outlet and bike power, (mounted set up), and the jacket is only being plugged into the co-ax outlet.
