hearing aids

Just finished a good thread about using hearing protection. Did not get a clear idea of how many guys are wearing hearing aids. Yesterday I plopped down enough bucks (almost) to buy a T7, for a pair of the latest greatest hearing aids. I did tell the Doc that I ride, and these would have to fit under my helmet.

But- they do not seal my ears! Really, there is no protection offered by them. He explained, the aids will not pump out volumes that could cause further damage. But I think he was not counting on the exhaust noise adding to the sound pressures.

So do I take the damn things out every time I want to have hearing protection, and pop in my pinlocks? Then get somewhere and reverse the process. I know me- the damn ear plugs will just stay in their case, too much bull shit to deal with. I am concerned these things will migrate to my desk drawer anyway. To further muddy the waters- these aids use Bluetooth, but the sound quality is very poor compared to my Cardo.

Wife is pretty sure I need to hear everything she is telling me. without aids, yes, I miss a lot. Can be very difficult to order in a busy restaurant. Ya, okay, maybe I need them, just not sure I can live with them.

Thoughts? Experience? I have a 30 day window where I can get back 90 percent of my money. Seriously considering it, but boy will my wife be pissed.

I think this is not really a problem of exhaust noise, especially on the XT1200. The main problem is the wind noise, it creates frequencies in the very low spectrum that can damage your hearing, and a lot of it depends on your helmet. I have an HJC RPHA-90 modular because 4-eyes, and like most modulars it is kind of noisy. I wear hearing protection always when going above city speeds. I read somewhere that noise creates fatigue on long rides as well.

So, if I were you, I would make sure my aids seal really well.

I get that, absolutely, the wind noise is the problem. I even went for a Neotec 2, in hopes it would be better then my HJC. But- not sure if hearing aids will be compatible with any helmet, or if they will help.

I have severe hearing loss and have been wearing hearing aids for over 10 years. My latest hearing aids (4 year old) have an electrical wire from the hearing aid to the moulded ear piece. The problem is that the wires are very delicate and not meant for the rough treatment of getting a helmet on/off and eventually break the connection. I also have moulded ear protection.

What I do is take the hearing aids off for riding and use the moulded hearing protection
