I went to remove my Givi Trekker outback 42L top box last night and was dismayed that the whole lock tumbler came out with the key! Fortunately this box has a little plastic cap that snaps over the lock or I’d have lost the whole assembly on the road somewhere! This is similar to the problem with the Yamaha OEM bag locks.
Turns out there’s a nut (instead of two tiny screws) that holds the lock cylinder in place. It had loosened up and backed off. At least it was trapped inside / behind the mechanism. I removed the 8 screws inside the box to remove the latch mechanism and retrieved the wayward nut and lock washer. All I had to do is reassemble and tighten it. There was no sign that any kind of thread locker was used. I fixed that!
So if you have these bags or top box and note any in and out looseness of the lock cylinder I advise disassembling, tightening and thread locking that nut.
