I'm curious myself. Does the island offer a good ADV environment?
It sure doesn't lack for views!

I am in Hilo on the Big Island. Moved here from upstate NY a year ago. I love it here and riding is OK. Same roads will get old and repetitious.

Is the cost of transporting your motorcycle to and from another island reasonable?

Personal suggestion... start bicycling, hiking, and outrigger canoeing. Used to race outrigger canoes but never got to paddle a four seat in the Hawaiian surf.

$200 each way to ship bike, $200+ for round trip airfare for me. I am gonna start a business and won't have much free time to island hop, so only day rides for me. I enjoy the fact I can run or bicycle anytime due to the warm weather.

I figured riding would get repetitive. Luckily I am and avid mountain biker, love surfing and my wife and kid like hiking.
At least my commute will take me though the mountains via the H3, spectacular scenery, hopefully it doesn't get old in 3 years.

Ill be getting a house in K bay and will be about .4 miles from a great surf spot, pretty excited about that.

Sounds like both of you have your spare time covered. Family... outrigger canoeing is very family oriented and has all levels from casual to competitive to world class paddling. Something to consider.

I was definitely considering a small out rigger boat maybe a kayak or something of the like. I will be living walking distance from k-bay. I feel like I am obligated to get my kid out on the water there.
