Fun bit of nostalgia, Australia got the Ténéré well before North America.

Just did it, no regrets. I rode a 2004 r1200GS and just bought a new 2020 S10 from Maroochydore Yamaha... just up the road from where you are.
Welcome from Texas. I initially thought you had the wrong year; thought the '04 was still an 1150. But, after doing some looking around, it looks like there was an '04 1150 and an '04 1200. But, apparently the '04 1150 was the GSA, and the '04 1200 was "just" a GS. Leave it to BMW.

Either way, congratulations on your new ride. I don't think you'll be disappointed. She's my favorite bike ever.

Nice part of the world. My sister lives in Nambour and when all the family used to meet up we would all go to "Swindlers" (my Dad's name for Sizzlers :D ) restaurant in Maroochydore...

Thanks, I am really impressed with the S10, and I was very happy with the GS for those years. However the GS did have some quality problems and BMW were very difficult to deal with about them. My first ever bike was 1982 XT550, and I have always respected Yamaha build quality.

I had a sticky break the other day. Pulled into a scenic pull out for a break and stepped immediately onto someone’s expelled chewing gum - yuck.

Regarding what year, nothing new had been announced beyond the changes made in 2014. I think the 2018 or 19 models got a stronger rear wheel, otherwise just different colors and graphics. Recommend a 2014 or later. If you want ES, that wasn’t offered prior to 2014.
