Have you dropped your Super Tenere? Damage?

Since the OP is a relative noob who was wondering how tough the bike is, apologies to all of the long-timers who've heard/seen this before.

Note that the mud puddle splashes are coming toward the camera? And the trailer traveled farther than the bike? The trailer caught a wheel in the puddle as I was going faster than I should have, then sprung free and into the air. I kinda knew a bad ending was coming when out of the corner of my eye I spotted the trailer passing me, and sure enough, suddenly I was whipped around backward. The bike went down on the right, the trailer with no brakes pulled the bike back up and over to then slam it down on the left side too for good measure.

Damage? A bent license plate.

Just one time the big girl has taken care of me.
I can't imagine putting a trailer behind my bike... :)

Do they make electric brakes kits for trailers that small? Had a 2000lb camper pulled by a 3000lb Jeep. Would have been impossible to stop without the electric set up; no hydraulics.

Haven't seen e-brakes for the bike trailer.
Gato - You got it, plus, I was wearing an air vest when I went down, so there was an explosive bang. In that first second of absolute quiet and not moving while laying there, my first thought was "OMG, I can't move my head or breath."

It took a second to realize the vest did what it was supposed to.

I think there used to be electrics that would fit inside a 12" rim. Don't remember anything for the eight or ten inch.

There are two kinds of riders, those that have dropped their bikes, and those that will. I know every bike I owned took a nap or two (the worst was when I would forget to remove the disc lock from the front brake!).

My best one on the ST was when I was riding Ophir Pass during the first big rally. I was staying as far away from the sheer drop as I could, and didn't have enough momentum to clear a large rock in my path; stopped me dead in my tracks and over I went. One medium sized rock got stuck in my Givi bars, so I popped it out, and continued on down the trail.View attachment 66914
You got that right, those that have dropped those who will drop, you forgot the third lot, er they are called liars.

Earlier someone mentioned damage to the exhaust protector. I'm running altrider full bars but not much else with Arrow headers. If I go down on pavement I'm guessing the rider and passenger pegs will hold the exhaust and engine case above the pavement?

Dropped mine off road a handful of times. No damage thx to good bars and tough oem panniers.

That's good to hear, I'd actually been avoiding mounting the sidecases off road because I'd read mixed things about their durability.

I'm curious how the bike fares on pavement without side cases. Would the pegs get demolished easily?

I would think that bars would keep the pegs fairly safe. They also fold. As many times that my RT, ST, and KZ were dropped. . . . I never lost a foot peg. That being said, a friend of mine dropped his 600 Ninja in a slow speed corner, and the peg was cracked off. Quite the pain to hold your foot up, and shift too.

The wind blew mine over in Moab. I think that cracked my foot peg. It snapped off later in the trip. Mine has been over a number of times. Always at a stop or low speed.

Mirror extenders were a great idea... until it tips over and the mirror hits first.

Quit counting, continue learning. Average a couple drops/year, almost all 0 mph. Biggest lesson is learning where to power through and where to stop safely.
One time, parked to move a limb. Turned around and she was sleeping.

Another, stopped to take a picture, and a big gust of wind blew me over. Some small dents and dings. Replaced one mirror and one handguard, scratches on the others. Good news is the handguards and mirrors are not too expensive. The shifter tends to take a beating if you drop left, but so far I've been able to straighten it. I have converted mine to a Woodcrafter folding. +1 on touchup paint for crash bars.

Can you pick her up on your own?
I know I certainly could not.

Every bike I've owned, I have dropped from a static or stopped position.
Usually stepping in to a pothole or uneven terrain...occassionally in a low speed turn...heavy lean and forgetting to keep a little power on.
Now riding a 2019 Zuki DR650 and a 2020 Africa Twin DCT, so far no drops, but eventually it will likely happen.
So, always wear your gear...

No shame in that at all. These damn bikes are freeking heavy. I have a small winch that comes with me at all times to lift the bike.
