So I was pretty set on getting a Givi Trekker Outback setup for my Tenere, before I started thinking.

I have a V-Strom with a set of Holan Nomada bags and racks. Was planning on selling the Strom with the bags, but no buyers yet. Holan makes a rack for the Tenere, but the price wouldn't make it worthwhile.

Would it be crazy to get someone to modify the Strom rack to the Tenere?

I did that exactly. I bought TouraTech 'kit' for another bike a year before the Tenere came to the states. It was funny when I told the seller this is going on a "bla-bla-bla" bike.... He said "Ill refund your money this second, these won't fit a "bla-bla"... I said, don't worry about it, Ill make them fit..... LOL. 20 years of pro-fab experience, these tubes won't stop me... LOL

I ended up cutting the racks all up and making them fit just how I wanted them to work and look. Also added a few little tie down points that I was wanting. I raised mine up so the boxes were flush (flat) across the top, so I have an even surface for bags or tent. They have been on the bike 6-7 years and have worked flawless.

I would say go for it !

So the answer is, does your skill set work for doing major fabrication and thin wall tubing welding? If so, rock on. If not, it could get expensive to have someone else do it if they aren't working for beer.

I'm not quite understanding your issue though. It's about the same cost for Givi CAM side carrier racks for the Super Ten as it is for the Holan racks for the Super Ten. If you were prepared to drop $1k on Givi Trekkers and racks, what's stopping you from spending ~$250 on just the Holan racks and re-using your Holan bags?
