Has anyone else experienced arthritis?

Well just had surgery yesterday. Got delayed during hurricane. Have plenty of forum reading time before I can get back in the saddle. Looking foward to riding again without pain. Doc said there was a lot of scar tissue around the the nerve trunk to my right arm which caused the surgery to take longer than normal. There is some relief, but also still very sore. Doc said it'll probably take a little longer to heal, he suspects c5-7 has been herniated for a long time.

For those that have met me at the camp and rides, I had to cut my hair the neck brace, I didn't have to but it was much more manageable without it.

My hands have recently succumbed to arthritis. I have it in my fingers and wrists. I take prescribed painkillers but i take only half of the prescribed dosage, I try to use it as a maintenance thing. I also take Tumeric and Cod Liver Oil. I eat very little sugar, drink just 2 cups of coffee a day and maybe 3 cups of tea. I really should drink more water as this apparently helps lubricate the connective tissue and coffee and tea are both diuretics. Most important is excercise, I practice Pilates and I try to keep using the affected limbs and body parts, it’s a case of use it or loose it.

Hang in there, I had C4-5 done in 2012. My latest MRI is showing I have 4 more bad disks in my neck now. :(
The attached pic is the day after my surgery waiting for our flight home. My left shoulder and upper arm were paralyzed before the surgery and slowly got the use of them over the next year. My surgeon says my neck is not bad enough again yet and he said best not to operate yet. So for now I will continue to forge on with the pain. I would rather that right now than having all those disked fused and not able to move my neck anymore.

When I click on these helpful links. It always goes back to the main forum page.
That is a forum issue-glitch addressed in thread “trying to connect to an old posting”.

There’s a way to find your link but it’s almost easier IMO for the OP to bump the thread back to the top and make reference to it.

Several years ago, I had C4/5/6 fused. So far it has been okay, but a big improvement. My concern is the same as yours, as I know the discs above and below will degrade over time. Last year I was reading a thread on someone who needed a replacement disk, but needed as much motion as possible. He went with this disc (https://www.cervicaldisc.com/), that will have better range of motion. It was a successful outcome, and has better motion than with the old fusion. Problem was the insurance would not cover, and I believe he had to pay $48K out of pocket for it. I do not know if there are better, or different companies.

My surgery was under workers comp, and hopefully when the time comes that I need another surgery on the neck, they will cover the newer type (I can hope).

Thanks Richard. I've been swamped for about the last year and appreciate how everybody is keeping things going like this.
