To expand on my last:

Harley buyers are 40-60 and that number keeps going up.

That means its the same customers.

Harley is only alive because of massive stock buybacks.

They need new blood.

People under 40 are struggling to afford a $20k motorcycle.

I love this bike but without a little brother that can be had for $10-12k fully farkled and ready for the dirt....what customers will they have? Who is leaving the big japanese four for harley? Who is walking away from ktm and bmw?

Time will tell, but i think this is too much $$$ for the crowd that harley actually needs to win.

I say this as a former harley and buell owner who wants to see them succeed (without tarriffs like the 80s to artificially inhibit competition).

I think there's an apatite for a well made American bike that is not a cruiser. I was pretty interested in the Motus, but they were just way too far away pricewise, starting out around $35K and they offered almost no technology compared to cheaper sport touring bikes from Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and even BMW. I was hoping they'd be successful and bring down their costs or introduce a cheaper model.

This new Panamerica seems different. Not only is it priced more competitively, but it's actually upping the tech game in a couple of ways. the main outstanding question to me is where the reliability will land. As an all new design Harley had access to all the state of the art quality methods and systems so there is just going to be no excuse for a miss here.

I think Harley hit a home run on this bike and is priced right were it needs to be. Their not going to complete with or go after the bottom dwellers. Look at how many KTMs are sold and they are at the high end of there dollar range.
There is a lot of adventure riders that also have Harleys already and Harley riders that use to ride dirt bikes.

There dealer network is the best in the US which will be a big seller and so will that rear suspension lowering device. And the chain drive reliably will equal a BMW final drive.

I bought an uncrated 2013 tenere in 2016 for 10k and watched them uncrate it.

You can finf screaming deals on the tenere because it never sold like the t7.

Yep, I saw a new Super Tenere on the showroom floor when I dropped off mine for the recall work, it was marked down to $12k. I can't recall if it was more than a model year old or if it was an ES, but I considered buying it and moving all the stuff from my 2013 that would fit. Then I considered that my bike without any accessories and 55k miles would probably sell for $4k-$5k and decided to put that thought out of my mind.

Anyway, if the HD bike is priced too high, the market will show it and you will see them marked down just the the Super Tenere.

Just signed up for a test ride when one comes to our local dealer and spoke to two sales guys, both of whom are hard core Harley. The bearded one in his late 50s had the look of somebody who kicks Yamahas over in the parking lot. The 30s guy was covered with HD and other tatts on all exposed skin below his jaw line.

Both were as welcoming as could be and are seriously looking forward to both the bike and see what the new engine is about. The younger guy talked about going camping on it with customers who had a BMW GS (it's a combined dealership) and the older guy said that he likes the upright position of a GS but didn't want to own a BMW and thinks this may be what he's looking for.

Be interesting to see if they can steer their BeeEmm clientelle over to HD

I also signed up to ride one when they have it in the dealer. He said the first one was sold so no one would ride it. I am very interested in this project for Harley. Even if I like the bike I am not in the market for one. Just always interested in motorcycles in general but something like this from Harley is really interesting. Hope it does well for them. The dealer ship I was in had a young and very nice sales person but didn't know what a adventure tourer was or what a super tenere was. I guess they are on a big learning curve with something other than cruisers.

. . . . I guess they are on a big learning curve with something other than cruisers.
They're going to have to be. Historically, H-D has always done the same thing, expecting different results. . . . or worse, not caring about different results. And, it's been enough. Hopefully, with their E-bike, and this adventure bike, this indicates that they really want to change their image, and/or mission statement.

It also could be that they're scared shitless that Indian is going to beat them to the adventure bike table. I've read about Indian's rumored adventure bike. It was supposed to be here mid-late '20. I'm assuming covid kinda messed that up.

Looks more like a scrambler, than an a full adventure bike. But, not all that different than Robbie the Robot from H-D.

There's two guys at the gym that ride cruisers. One is a retro H-D sportster (Iron 1200), and the other is an Indian (Scout). Apples to apples, I like the Indian's look better than H-D.

I've got a fond spot for the Indian name and logo because I have a picture of my Dad on one. Glad to hear they may have an adventure bike coming too.

It's looking promising. Hope it works for them. Mostly hope they don't use cheap Chinese electronics, switchgear ect. Both BMW and Harley should have learned lessons the hard way by now.

I lets see how it does.

I think its the right bike for the wrong crowd.

Harley is trying to win NEW customers and i dont see that happening when the bike is this much.

It is happening at a fairly rapid rate. Check Advrider to see the level of interest. The first shipments are selling out quickly and serious potential buyers are scrambling to find one. The pricing is not out of line by any stretch especially considering the standard equipment.

This is the first Harley I actual want to ride and could consider owning. Harley has a lot going for it and if the bike is as good as the early reviews suggest they will sell a ton of them to a lot of US buyers. No other manufacturer has the dealer network and support that Harley does.

They will have every accessory possible to outfit the bike exactly as the owners would desire.

Talk is cheap. . . . if the reliability has not been addressed. . . . it's all a moot point. Wish 'em luck either way. I just hope they don't screw the faithful.

my wife has one of the bottom-feeder xg500s (aka, street 500), and it has 25K miles, and it's been perfectly reliable. boring, crappy suspension and brakes, but i fixed the suspension (bitubo shocks in the rear, racetech cartridge emulators and springs up front), and brakes (braided brake lines and EBC brake pads). she loves the thing, which is really all that matters, right? I think HD will have this dialed in ok, but not enough for me to dump the super 10. i just really like the super 10.

Reliability hasn't been an issue for years. some of you guys talk out you arse. I will trade my S10 for one sooner rather than later. first one lasted four hours after hitting the ground at my dealer.
I would Hope to see the Pan America do better in reliability (as per polled owners) than the current crop of Harleys, otherwise it'll probably be a no-go for me. Doesn't look to me like it's no longer an issue for Harley's current bikes.
