I'm having a problem with getting sore hands and wrists after a couple of hours riding the bike
I've read a few older threads here about about the sweep of the stock bars being the main cause and new bars or bending out the original bars even being an option
Has anyone replaced their bars recently and can recommend a set that don't need to much messing around to fit
With straightening/bending the stock bars, what would be the best way to do this and keep them even, I'm very capable mechanically and have plenty of tools and decent vices at my disposal but I just don't want to stuff it up really
The bike already has Rox risers and I've played around with moving the bars in and out but none of it's helping

My wrists and hands are prone to this. I had to change the bars on my Tiger 800.
I find the S10 bars to be good for me. What i dont like is the grips on bikes they are too small. I dont have big hands either. I find i am clenching to much. I use Grip Puppies which make the grips bigger and that helps alot. If you are holding on too tight your wrists and hands are getting too much of a workout. Its a cheap way to solve the problem. This may not apply to you though.

Is your problem in both hands and wrists ?
Does your bike have cruise control ? The main reason I traded 2013 for new 2018 was to get cruise control because riding without cruise causes a lot of pain in my right hand-wrist-shoulder .
I wear double extra large gloves but prefer the stock factory size handgrips.
My age 68 is probably another issue contributing to pain problems.
Different things work for different folks so hopefully you will be able to find a solution that helps fix your issues.

I had to have a bike with Cruise Control for the same reasons.

It would be very difficult for me to give advise on something like handlebars or correcting pain issues because every human body is different. I have a lot of injuries and some joint tendon and nerve issues in my left leg and arms. I found this bike caused me to put more pressure on my wrists than my fj1200 or my fjr1300. I did wind up with bigger grips and i used rox risers so i could move the bars closer to me. To make the bars better for my old injuries i like the outside of the bars to droop down off level. I have narrowed the bars by 2 inches and i like the bars low so rolling the stock bars back with the rox risers gets all that set perfect for me. It isnt the best set up for standing i admitt but i have no problem standing and handling it in rough sections. The fact is for me it is the very best set up for sitting. That is probably 98 percent of the time that i am on this bike. I have also taken the rake out of the seat. Try to figure out what pressures or angles that cause you the issues and see if you can set it up to take the painful angles out of play. Mostly experiment is all i can say. Good luck!

Yes mate in both hands and wrists, What seems to be happening is that I'm getting lot's of pressure in between my thumb and forefinger to the point my gloves are pulling tight against the ends of my fingers
2011 model so no cruise control but it doesn't seem to matter if I grip loosely or not the pain just gets unbearable after a while, I've been conscious of the death grip and it's not that
I'm also 60 and got my first motorbike at 9 years old, I've never had anything like this from any other bike, Even the gloves I'm using are well worn and fit, well, like a glove
I'm convinced it's the bars

Pro Taper bars with the Raptor bend.
Thank you, So is there a model number or something I can identify those easily?

Rox risers, and cushy grip over lays did the trick for me. The trick is get the weight off your hands and wrists.
I have the same risers but with Oxford heated grips, I think it's the angle of the bars, I get a lot of pressure in between the thumb and forefinger and just can't seem to grip the bars in a natural position if that makes sense

Sorry for the late reply guys, We had a crazy storm go through here last night and I've been cutting a large tree off my chook pen and grading my washed out driveway all day

So are there any thoughts on bending the stock bars? I'm thinking to take them to an engineering shop to do the bending
I'm just not sure on the angle I would be looking for

Mostly sealed and gravel roads and the occasional forest track
If I'm on the bike for hours it would be mostly sealed roads

If it were me i wouldnt mess with bending the bars unless i knew exactly what would suit me. Is it possible for you to get to a bike showroom and sit on some bikes to get an idea of what might suit you. Im guessing you want less sweep so your hands are sitting straighter on the bars. Also something that puts a load on your hands and wrists is the engine braking. I found it too strong for me so when i had the ECU remapped i had it toned right down.

Fair enough mate, just a thought to take some of the sweep out of the bars
I'm happy with the engine braking so I don't really want to change that
I'm thinking about the Protaper adventure low handlebars, the raptor as suggested above look good too but are 30mm / 1" narrower so a consideration there

I struggled with pain between my shoulder blades and numbing in my hands w oem bars. I added rox risers to bring the bars back a bit but that didn't fix it. Scouring the YST forum, I found lots of discussion on this which led me to the Protaper Adventure High bars. This has solved it for me.

The Adventure bend came out after my Raptor bend. With that rise did you have to add length to the lines? My Raptors are on a Rox 2" riser and extended lines. That's like 3.25" rise. Very comfy.

Thanks Bob, I think I'll go with the Protaper Adventure low bars
The pain I'm having is mostly wrists and hands and it's putting me off riding the bike, 60 years old now and I don't really need anything else adding to the aches and pains :D :)

I tried the Protaper Evo highs, found it too flexy for my taste, went to the regular height Evo with the Helibars barbacks. Suits me better.

I'm tall with proportionately wider shoulders, so the sweep of the stock were too acute. This solution has worked out for me really well.

Hope you find a good solution for your needs.
