All - I posted this previously in a thread about bars. It has lots of nifty measurements of everything I could find at one point in time. Sortable etc. I need to comb through that thread for the updates and additions but for now this is a start. Hopefully it is a handy reference as you make your tweaks and tunes to the ergonomics.

As I stated elsewhere I love that some people can get on and find any random bar comfortable and don't mind the vibrations, etc. I have found that minor changes can yield huge results. Vibrations won't necessarily go away but you might find that a slightly different bar has a slightly different harmonic frequency which your body better ignores. If not why would we have so many choices?

Visit reply 97 on the following thread to see how (one way that has also worked for me as well as the poster) to find the right spot for your bars: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=5113.90

You may find that just rotating the current ones does the trick.

Here is the link to the excel version but hosted on Google Docs - it should just download. I added a column for diameter and control plane. The diameter is based on a parsing of the description. :)

Re: The Handlebar Spreadsheet Thread

Just updated this to include all of the control plane information on the ProTaper Contour series. If you have other information on control plane or missing bars I am happy to add it, just let me know.

I've thanked you before. But I want you to know that I have now been rewarded with many thousands of PAINLESS miles because of the changes I made as a result of that spreadsheet. Your unselfish efforts. My gain.

You will never know if you don't try it, thanks for the compliment
Now you've done it, you got snakebitten's hamster wheel spinning upstairs :)

Was always curious if a stabilizer of some sorts was going to come out for the S10! Now we know.

Seriously,
The Bling factor is what it is. Really nice. And the risers are more than bling, but I already have them. But the damper? For the Tenere?

I have bikes that a Scotts could be considered legit. But the Tenere is so stable. Or at least mine is. Far from nervous.

Oh, and why am I the fish? Everybody watching to see if I take bait. Bunch of rats.

What bait? Look at it as a finishing touch to an almost perfect bike. Those Ohlins need a better home than the cheesy cast clamps. Be sides someone has to do the R&D.

You're welcome. It was anything but un-selfish though - I had to put it together to make heads or tails of the choices when I had a Wee-Strom. I couldn't go for more than 90 minutes with those stock bars before there was a searing pain between my shoulders.... the S10 has been better but is getting change here soon during the winter maintenance period.

Glad it is helpful for everyone - less pain = less fatigue = batter safety for all of us. Oh and more enjoyment :)

Re: The Handlebar Spreadsheet Thread

This is great timing on a refresher of your earlier stuff tpak. Have been on the fence about bars for awhile now and about to pull the trigger.

Has anyone run the vibration rods inside the flexx bars? Several years ago, something similar called vibranators came out, but I'm not sure if these are really relevant or necessary.

I've gotten moderate arm pump several times while riding in extended technical stuff offroad, and figure if I have to go through all the BS of removing all the controls, drilling pin holes for them, tapping threads, etc...I might go ahead and try the vibration rods, too.

Wait till your in your 50's Kid. :)

The pain really isn't worse as you get old. It just comes easier. More often. Stays longer. You have to learn to LIVE with it.

I don't know if there is anything magic I could put inside my flexbars to make me younger. Lol

Re: The Handlebar Spreadsheet Thread

This is so complicated for my dumb head. If it feels comfortable, no vibration, no pain, etc. Then it is right. ::025::

Re: The Handlebar Spreadsheet Thread

Just requires a method and patience. You could even get cheap bars to find something that matches your "natural" grip location. Then by high quality bars that match the dimensions.

You don't gotta get it right quickly. Take your time.

Getting it right PAYS big time. Worth it.
